NEW DELHI: With the Punjab Assembly elections approaching, the BJP is stepping up its outreach to women voters, deploying senior women leaders and planning a series of campaigns highlighting the Modi government’s welfare and development schemes.
Party sources said the BJP’s Mahila Morcha in Punjab had been activated to spearhead the campaign ahead of next year’s elections. Senior women leaders, including Union ministers, are expected to participate in the outreach programmes.
At a recent meeting in Punjab, party leaders reviewed election preparedness and discussed mobilising women workers, expanding grassroots activities and developing state-specific strategies.
Sources said the party planned to organise ‘Mahila Chaupals’, meetings with intellectuals and interactions with women beneficiaries of government schemes.
“We are planning to hold ‘Mahila Chaupal’, intellectual meet and women beneficiaries meet to woo women voters,” party sources said.
A BJP insider said the party recognised the importance of women voters in the 2027 Assembly elections and intended to highlight Central schemes relating to women’s welfare, safety, self-reliance and empowerment.
The leadership has also discussed bringing more women from different sections of society into the organisation and expanding the Mahila Morcha’s activities to address their concerns and aspirations.
Party workers will undertake door-to-door campaigns to explain government schemes and help eligible women understand how to access their benefits.
The Punjab BJP also plans to strengthen its organisational structure by inducting more women leaders and expanding the Mahila Morcha’s presence at the grassroots level.
A party insider said the campaign would focus on maintaining regular contact with women, understanding their problems and raising their concerns on appropriate platforms.
The BJP also intends to highlight initiatives undertaken by the Central government since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with special emphasis on women’s empowerment and development.
