Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday accused the previous BRS government of depriving the poor of houses and house sites during its 10-year rule and alleged that corruption under Dharani and Kaleshwaram had left Telangana with a debt burden of `8.25 lakh crore. Speaking at Nandigama in Rangareddy district after inaugurating the new MPDO office and laying the foundation stone for an MRO office building, Ponguleti said the Congress government was paying around `6,500 crore every month towards debt servicing.

Taking a dig at BRS leaders, he said some were already rehearsing their swearing-in ceremonies in the hope of becoming Chief Minister. Advising one such leader to first win from his constituency, he said their political dreams would not come true. He alleged that Opposition leaders were resorting to false propaganda against the Congress government. The minister added the government had continued welfare schemes such as Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi despite their introduction by the previous government. He said `73,000 crore had been provided as zero-interest loans to women self-help groups, with an objective of turning one crore women into millionaires.

He said eight lakh Indiramma houses had been sanctioned and 2,25,100 are completed. He called for “Deepavali in Our Indiramma House” programmes at all completed houses from Saturday. The minister said Bhu Bharati reforms would address land problems. Resurvey of 10,456 villages would be completed within 18 months, with every land parcel receiving a patta, map and Bhudhaar number. Ponguleti also announced an RDO and MRO office for Nandigama and said the proposed dumping yard at Siddapur would be shifted.
