DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Cabinet minister Rekha Arya’s husband, Girdhari Lal Sahu, has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh in connection with a case registered on her complaint alleging forgery, harassment, assault and conspiracy to murder.

Police said Sahu was arrested in Jhansi on Friday after evading arrest for more than three weeks. His nephew and co-accused Satendra Rathore was arrested in Bareilly.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Arya at Dehradun’s Cantonment police station on October 15.

The minister accused Sahu of forging her signatures to prepare documents removing her as a director of four companies without her knowledge or consent.

She also alleged that he had concealed his previous marriage, subjected her to physical and mental harassment, used caste-based slurs and threatened her life.

A special investigation team (SIT), headed by Dehradun SP (Rural) Jaya Baloni, was constituted on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobhal.

During the investigation, police questioned several associates of Sahu and examined documents relating to the four companies.

Police alleged that Sahu had conspired with Rathore to forge documents and replace Arya with his nephew as director of the companies.

According to police, Sahu has a history of criminal cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Despite being on the run, he had issued statements through social media from undisclosed locations.

Investigators conducted raids at several locations in both states before tracing the accused.

Police said the investigation was continuing and further action would depend on evidence gathered by the SIT.
