Hyderabad: The newly laid cement concrete (CC) pedestrian pathways on the Moosarambagh bridge have been dug up for cable-laying work, triggering concerns among locals over the wastage of public funds and lack of coordination among civic authorities.
Residents said portions of the footpaths were demolished a few days ago to lay cables, questioning why the newly constructed pathways had to be damaged barely two months after the bridge was inaugurated.
They also pointed out that the road beneath the bridge was already in poor condition and that the damage to the pedestrian walkways had added to their difficulties.
Locals said there had earlier been no proper space for pedestrians to walk, as the stretch was covered with construction debris, which has since been cleared.
However, the ongoing cable work has once again made the stretch unsafe, particularly at night.
They also complained that no warning signs or barricades had been put up to alert pedestrians about the damaged portions.
The Moosarambagh bridge, built across the Musi river, was inaugurated by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on August 31, after nearly five years of construction.
Resident S. Parijatha urged officials to restore the pedestrian pathways before a fatal accident occurred.
Another resident, B. Sandeep Goud, said pipes had been lying at the site for several months and questioned the urgency of taking up the work now.
Goud warned that anyone slipping or falling on the damaged stretch could suffer serious injuries.
He stressed the need for all utility works to be completed in coordination before public infrastructure is opened for use, to prevent avoidable damage and wastage of public money.
Repeated attempts to contact GHMC officials for their response went unanswered.
