The Wilcox Tech girls soccer team forfeited its CIAC Class M first-round game Saturday morning at Foran in Milford due to not having enough players to field a team.
Both athletic directors confirmed the reason behind the forfeit, which goes down as a 3-0 result, according to CIAC girls soccer tournament director Mark Berkowitz.

Foran, the reigning Class M champion, is the No. 10 seed. Wilcox Tech was seeded 23rd.
“We had a lack of personnel due to injuries and a player transfer,” Wilcox Tech athletic director Steve Wodarski said. “It was a disappointing end to what had been a great season.”
Wilcox Tech, which finished 13-2-1 in the regular season, advanced to the CTC tournament final before losing to Norwich Tech.
The forfeit also completed Foran coach Steve Bell’s two-game suspension. Athletic director Jeff Raucci confirmed that Bell will return to the sideline Tuesday when the Lions play at RHAM in Hebron, the No. 7 seed. Bell said he was issued two yellow cards in the regular-season finale against North Haven, which merits a two-game suspension.

Raucci said that the CIAC confirmed that Saturday’s forfeited game counted as part of the two-game suspension. The other game was a loss to Cheshire in the SCC tournament quarterfinals.
“I think it was a fair decision by the official. I have to learn to control my emotions,” Bell said.
Foran defeated RHAM 1-0 in last season’s Class M quarterfinals en route to its first CIAC championship.
