Texas Southern played its fourth straight one-score game Saturday.

Unlike the previous two, this one didn’t go the Tigers’ way as Alabama State held off a late TSU rally in a 34-31 win at Thorne Stadium.

TSU (3-6, 2-4 SWAC) had won its past two games on the final play but couldn’t overcome a 10-point deficit in the final five minutes.

Cam’Ron McCoy’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Kordell Rodgers drew the Tigers within three points with 3:12 left but the Hornets (5-4, 3-3) were able to run out the clock on their win.

McCoy threw three TD passes, with two to Roriyon Richardson, and ran for 111 yards and a score to lead the Tigers.

Trailing 24-21, Alabama State took the lead for good on Aaron Frye’s 76-yard TD run with 8:44 left in the fourth quarter. Frye then threw a 35-yard TD pass to Israel Tate with 5:13 left to give the Hornets some cushion that proved pivotal.
