In Sunday’s matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos, a dropped touchdown pass turned into an unbelievable interception thanks to a well-timed challenge.
Towards the end of the third quarter, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young threw a pass to tight end Tommy Tremble in the end zone. Though the ball did end up in the hands of Broncos defensive back Devon Key, it looked like it hit the ground first, leading officials to rule the play an incomplete pass.

However, Denver used its challenge flag, leading to a review that proved successful for the Broncos. As Tremble went down while trying to make the catch, the ball rolled off his wrist before bouncing off his hand, with Key in just the right position to pluck it out of the air. It never actually hit the ground at all, leading officials to overturn the call and rule it a Denver pick.
Because the play was ruled dead, Key did not get a chance to make a return, but the Broncos were given a touchback as a result of the call. Quarterback Bo Nix then led the team down the field on a 14-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to take a 19-15 lead.
