Catherine O’Hara was honoured at the Actor Awards, previously known as the SAG Awards, just a month after her death for her impressive performance in The Studio
Catherine O’Hara has won a posthumous award at the 32nd Actor Awards for her performance in The Studio. The accolade comes a month after her unexpected death at the age of 71.
The star won best female actor in a comedy series at the ceremony formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards. She died on January 30 from a blood clot in the lungs.
As the gongs were handed out at the Shine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, the crowd stood in a standing ovation after it was announced that Catherine was the winner of her category. Seth Rogen, co-creator of movie, accepted the award on her behalf.

Speaking about the actress, and her role as the movie executive Patty Leigh in the series, Seth recalled a passionate collaborator who would, the night before a scene, invariably send a polite email with a number of rewrite suggestions. He said she “showed that you could be a genius and you could be kind.”

In his speech, he said: “If you have people in your lives who don’t know her work show them O’Hara dancing to Harry Belafonte in Beetlejuice, show them O’Hara hurting her knee in Best in Show and doing that amazing thing where she hobbles around, and tell the people as they are laughing that that’s Catherine O’Hara and we were lucky that we got to live in a world where she so generously shared her talents with us.
As well as Catherine’s award win, The Studio also picked up the trophies for best comedy series and best actor in a comedy series, won by Seth.
The ceremony comes as the last major precursor event before the Oscars. It’s said the awards could indicate who could be set for success at the big bash on March 15.
