For a close friend’s wedding, Aditi Rao Hydari wore a handwoven Kanjeevaram silk sari by Gaurang Shah, built around a high-voltage pairing of lime green, royal purple and antique gold.
The sari’s broad gold zari pallu and hem do most of the visual work, giving the drape heft and shine, while the body stays lighter with scattered butis across the lime silk. The purple edge tracing the sari sharpens the contrast further, and the blouse picks that thread up exactly. Cut in the same saturated purple with woven gold detailing, it holds the palette together.

In profile, the silk falls with the dense, sculpted drop Kanjeevaram does so well, especially around the lower half, where the pleats open into that unmistakable temple-silk sweep. She kept the jewellery traditional and close to the fabric language, with jhumkas, stacked bangles and a gemstone-set choker that sits neatly at the neck. Charlotte Wang styled Hydari’s hair in a half-up look and kept the makeup fresh, with flushed cheeks and a nude lip.

“This look is a masterclass in colour blocking without looking like a statement. The gold jewellery supplements the undertones of the neon and the borders of the kanjeevaram sari. Add a dash of white to heighten the freshness of the look; one white gold bangle on each hand would go a long way,” says Manglien Gangte, Vogue India fashion associate.
