New Delhi: A petition was filed in a Karachi court in Pakistan on Friday, December 12, against the Bollywood film ‘Dhurandhar’. It alleges that the film illegally used images of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) flag, and footage of party rallies without permission.

Petition Demands An FIR Be Registered

The film is also accused of portraying the PPP as a party that supports terrorism. The petition was filed by PPP worker Mohammad Amir in the District and Sessions Court (South) in Karachi.

The petition demands that an FIR be registered against the film’s director, producers, actors, and others involved in the film’s promotion and production.

The petition names lead actor Ranveer Singh, along with other actors Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Beni, director Aditya Dhar, and producers Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Kishore Deshpande.

Petition Says That Pakistan’s Image Has Been Damaged

According to the petitioner, the film’s official trailer shows images of Benazir Bhutto and scenes related to the PPP without any legal permission. The petition also states that the film portrays the PPP as a party sympathetic to terrorists.

It also describes the Lyari area of Karachi as a “war zone for terrorists,” which, according to the petitioner, is defamatory, misleading, and damaging to Pakistan’s image.

Petitioner Approached The Court

Mohammad Amir said that the film spreads hatred, insults, and incites against the PPP, its leaders, and supporters. He has cited sections 499, 500, 502, 504, 505, 153-A, and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code. These sections relate to defamation, criminal intimidation, inciting riots, and promoting enmity between different groups.

The petitioner stated that he had previously filed a written complaint with the SHO of Darakhshan Police Station, but the police neither registered a case nor took any legal action. This is why he had to approach the court.

Dhurandhar Not Released In Gulf Countries

Dhurandhar is performing well not only in India but also internationally. However, the film has been banned in several Middle Eastern countries. Dhurandhar was not granted permission for release in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

It is being reported that the film was deemed “anti-Pakistan” in these countries. Consequently, the censoring authorities in the Gulf countries did not approve the film’s content.
