Dhurandhar has smashed records at the North American box office, making Ranveer Singh the only Indian lead actor whose six films have crossed the $5 million mark in US and Canada, surpassing superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar has smashed box-office records in India as well as foreign markets like North America where the spy-action thriller has raked in over $5 million since its release. However, after being banned in several Gulf states for allegedly hurting ‘Muslim sentiments’, a Canadian journalist, Daniel Boardman, has called for banning Dhurandhar in Canada for some quite interesting reasons.
Why Boardman called for ‘ban’ on Dhurandhar in Canada?
Daniel Boardman said he recently watched “Dhurandhar” to review the film on behalf of the BBC and CBC, and later in a satirical tone, advocated for a ban on the movie because it “draws a link between terrorism and crime” in Canada.
“This film ‘Dhurandhar’ is changing people’s opinions about India and Pakistan. We always thought they were good friends. But this film showed me that they never got along. So that’s why we’re demanding a ban on it! It could be banned here in Canada. Because this film exposes a link between gang violence and terrorism. And these are the two most exported items from Canada right now,” Boardman says in a video shared on his X handle.
Continuing his sarcastic review of Dhurandhar, Daniel adds, “We’re not in the energy and resources sector. We’re in crime and terrorism. So explaining the link between crime and terrorism might motivate people to take action on both of these things. We simply can’t do that!”
Journalist highlights Pak-linked terror in Canada
Daniel Boardman also indirectly referred to cases where Canada has taken action against terrorists with Pakistan connections. “If you want to know what the terrorist camps in Pakistan have to do with us, we too have seen the fear of a terrorist who, after training in Pakistan, came here to kill people. If you don’t want Pakistan-based jihadi gangs funded by narco-terrorism to kill people, then this film is not for you.”
The journalist also refers to Pakistan-linked terror cases in Canada in a satirical tone, saying “these gangs are part of our multicultural society!”.
“So join me in demanding a ban on this film. This film must be banned in Canada. Because it reveals the deep, dark secret that India and Pakistan are not good friends. And Pakistan is still funding terrorism!,” he adds.
Dhurandhar sets box office records in North America
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar has smashed records at the North American box office, making Ranveer Singh the only Indian lead actor whose six films have crossed the $5 million mark in US and Canada, surpassing superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has five such movies to his name.
Dhurandhar, the Aditya Dhar directorial, which has evoked polarising reactions from many critics and people in India, is mostly set in Lyari town of Karachi, an area known for its history of gang wars and violent turf battles.
Produced by Dhar and Lokesh Dhar under B62 Studios in association with Jyoti Deshpande’s Jio Studios, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, R Madhavan and Rakesh Bedi.
