Lawyers for accused sex offender Alan Jones have asked a court to hand over the email address of one of the young men who accused the former broadcaster of indecency during an Opera House performance.

Jones, 84, was arrested in late 2024 and now faces 27 charges against nine complainants for alleged indecent assault and sexual touching offences at other public locations, including a lower north shore restaurant, as well as his homes and former workplaces.

The former 2GB and Sky News broadcaster was not at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday as his lawyers and prosecutors traded packets of documents Jones had requested under subpoena.

Jones’ lawyer Bryan Wrench was particularly interested in one email, printed and held by the court in a yellow legal envelope, sent by a man known only as Complainant G to the court.

“This is a subpoena to Complainant G… (that) Mr Jones issued to disclose all contact with police, including messages, emails, communication… The issue is that it’s now March 2026 and he has, for completely unknown reasons, chosen not to comply with this subpoena,” Wrench said.

“We understand he may be having contact with the (director of public prosecutions) but refuses to have contact with Mr Jones’ lawyer.”

Wrench told the court the email sent by Complainant G in mid-December had the sender’s address blacked out.

Jones wants it unredacted, so his lawyers can email his accuser directly.

“We seek the email address so we can tell him he must comply, or we will need to take further steps,” Wrench said.

“We don’t want to go to a warrant, we want him to comply.”

Complainant G told police he was with Jones at the Opera House in 2014 when Jones touched his crotch.

Police documents claim Jones “did assault Complainant G and at the time of the assault committed an act of indecency on Complainant G, to wit, rubbed the complainant’s leg up towards his crotch during the performance at Sydney Opera House”.

That same year, according to police documents, Jones again assaulted Complainant G when he “touched his leg close to his groin”.

Jones will fight the charges against him before a local court magistrate in a hearing expected to begin in August and last for up to four months.

Two weeks ago, another local court was told there were 23 subpoenas with “oodles of documents” still outstanding.

Many of those subpoenas were answered on Thursday, their contents unknown.

A 2023 investigation by the Herald and The Age revealed Jones had used his position of power, first as a teacher and later as the country’s top-rating radio broadcaster, to allegedly prey on a number of young men.

Documents previously seen by this masthead showed the allegations include fondling penises, stroking thighs and squeezing bottoms. Jones is also accused of pulling a man’s scrotum and masturbating during one alleged indecent assault.
