Delhi pollution: In a step towards controlling pollution in the national capital, the Delhi government will begin enforcement of the “No PUC, No Fuel” rule from December 18, Thursday. As part of an intensified multi-pronged drive to curb worsening air pollution in the Delhi NCR region, Delhi Environment Minister has issued strict directives to agencies, petrol pump operators and the police about the compliance of the “No PUC, No Fuel” rule. What’s in the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule?
As per the strict enforcement plan of “No PUC, No Fuel” rule, vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) will be denied fuel at petrol pumps across Delhi. Simultaneously, non-BS VI vehicles registered outside Delhi will be barred from entering the city. As per a report carried by IANS, officials said 126 checkpoints, including border points, will be manned by 580 police personnel, supported by 37 Prakhar Vans. Transport department enforcement teams will also be stationed at petrol pumps and key entry points.
What Delhi Minister Sirsa said on fighting pollution?
The IANS report also mentions that Delhi Minister Sirsa said the government is fighting pollution on four fronts vehicle emissions, dust, industrial pollution and waste. Fuel will not be given to vehicles without a valid PUC certificate, with cameras and police support for enforcement. The government is also planning a tie-up with Google Maps to manage traffic at 100 hotspots and is considering a carpooling app to reduce congestion and pollution.
