Alex Jones is famed for The One Show but she’s taking over presenting duties of another hit programme this weekend.
Alex Jones has opened up on the “downhill” struggles her husband had been fighting away from the spotlight.
The One Show presenter Alex Jones is stepping into Matt Tebbutt’s shoes this weekend, teaming up with chef Bryn Williams to host Saturday Kitchen Live on March 7, on BBC One.
The Welsh star will be joined by chefs Mike Reid and Adejoke Bakare who are ready to cook up a storm, along with comedian Phil Wang.
Alex has been married to insurance broker Charles Thomson since 2015 and share three children together, now residing in the Berkshire countryside after moving from London.
But it hasn’t always been an easy journey for the family-of-five as the 48-year-old presenter opened up in 2023 that her husband had suffered a mental health crisis.
She shared that Charles fell into a deep depression, becoming a “shadow of himself” after he was diagnosed with Lyme disease and viral meningitis.
Speaking on Gabby Logan’s podcast The MidPoint, Alex recalled watching him “fall apart” as he dealt with his physical health but thankfully shared he was in a “much better place now”.
Last year, she opened up on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast about how she felt during her husband’s mental health struggles. “I thought I’d been depressed but then I saw it and thought ‘no I haven’t’,” she began.
“You have to let go of judgement and I found it really hard. I had to bite my tongue so hard from saying, ‘Come on. Let’s go for a walk. Come on.’
“And I said to a friend ‘Come on, let’s go for a drink.’ Don’t be so ridiculous.
“This person could not get out of bed let alone put some clothes on and go for a drink. I hadn’t understood it and that’s my own failing.”
Things seem to be looking up for the family-of-five though as at the end of 2025, they spent some time in Charles’ home country of New Zealand.
Alex took to Instagram on New Year ’s Eve to also share that it was the 10th wedding anniversary, having tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at Cardiff Castle.
Alongside some throwback photos from the day, she wrote: “Today, we celebrate 10 years as husband and wife. Then and now.
“We married in the northern hemisphere so it was only right to mark a decade, with our children in the southern hemisphere. It’s all about compromise [laughing emoji].
“We are so grateful to our family and friends who made that day extremely special and continue to make life a lot of fun!”
Saturday Kitchen Live continues every Saturday at 10am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
