Allison Holker And First Husband, Stephen Boss’ Marriage, His S**cide And Secret Changed Their Lives

Allison Holker is all set to give marriage another try with Adam Edmunds. The Dancing with the Stars fame announced her engagement on February 12, 2026 (ET). While fans are happy for the pro dancer, it has also prompted them to reflect on her journey, including her marriage to her first husband, Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss. 

Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss and Allison Holker got married in 2013. The couple went on to welcome three kids. However, their marital bliss was met with a thunderous storm almost a decade later, when Boss committed suicide, leaving Holker and their children absolutely heartbroken.

Stephen Boss and Allison Holker first met in 2006 at a mutual friend’s party. Boss shared that he saw Allison for the first time during Ivan Koumaev’s party. However, Holker doesn’t remember the same. It was in 2010, a couple of years later, when the duo appeared on So You Think You Can Dance Season 7. While their romance began with admiration, by the end of the season, they had formed an enduring connection. Talking about the same, Boss told PEOPLE:

“There was no dialogue, there was no conversation or a first hangout. Literally, we danced and we were together holding hands the very next day.”

In May 2012, Allison Holker and Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss made their relationship public by attending two separate events. On May 19, 2012, they attended Tyler Shields’ MOUTHFUL gallery debut. Followed by the premiere of Battlefield America on May 23, 2012, marking their first red carpet as a couple. There was no separating the two after that; they appeared on Dancing With the Stars Season 16, performing a number together as Lindsey Stirling played music.

After almost three years of love and commitment, Stephen Boss finally got down on one knee in June 2013, while they were filming a commercial. The couple celebrated their engagement as Allison Holker showed off her ring on the red carpet at the Celebration of Dance Gala. The couple tied the knot on December 10 of the same year at SYTYCD creator, Nigel Lythgoe’s Villa San-Juliette Vineyard & Winery in Paso Robles, Calif.

Stephen Boss didn’t just become a husband on December 10, 2013, but also a stepfather to Allison Holker’s daughter, Weslie, from a previous relationship. The family further grew when they announced they were expecting their first child together during an episode of DWTS Season 21. Holker revealed the exciting news that she was pregnant with her second child as the couple posed for a handful of cute photos backstage. In March 2016, the couple welcomed their son, Maddox Laurel. Three years later, on November 3, 2019, Boss and Holker became parents again to a daughter named Zaia.

On December 14, 2022, days after their ninth anniversary, Allison Holker got the biggest shock of her life. Stephen Boss had committed suicide at the age of 40. Soon after, Holker shared a heartfelt statement about her late husband to PEOPLE. The pro dancer reflected on how Boss would light up every room he walked into. A part of her statement read:

“He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans. To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honour his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for me and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”

Shocking revelation after Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ demise

Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss’ demise was not easy on Allison Holker. However, right before his funeral, she was met with a shocking revelation. According to PEOPLE, Holker was looking for an outfit for the funeral when she found a “cornucopia” of d**gs, including mushrooms, pills and other substances she “had to look up on her phone”, hidden inside his shoeboxes. She shared:

“It was a really triggering moment for me because there were a lot of things I discovered in our closet that I did not know existed. It was very alarming to me to learn that there was so much happening that I had no clue [about]. It was a really scary moment in my life to figure that out, but it also helped me process that he was going through so much and he was hiding so much, and there must have been a lot of shame in that.”

Throughout their nine-year marriage, Allison Holker believed that she and Stephen Boss had a very honest and clear communication. While she knew about his use of m**ijuana, what she found that day completely shattered her, as she realised that Boss was keeping a secret that she had no idea about. She shared that Stephen was going through a lot behind the scenes, that he didn’t know how to deal with. She recalled that his journals revealed how he was trying to self-medicate to cope with the feelings he couldn’t process. According to reports, Boss disappeared after dropping off their eldest, Weslie to school. His final words to her were:

“I wish I could be your Superman.”
