Xabi Alonso hailed the collective effort of his Real Madrid side following their narrow 1-0 victory away to Getafe, singling out the performances of Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler and Eduardo Camavinga in what he described as a demanding match on difficult terrain.

The Real coach praised Vinicius for his influence on the game’s tempo and ability to draw fouls in key areas.

“Yes, he [Vinicius] had a good impact on the game. The fouls he drew, the changes… all that gave us an advantage that we took. He is a good example that everyone is important,” Alonso said, crediting the Brazilian’s persistence and energy.

Guler also earned special mention from Alonso, who highlighted the youngster’s growing importance in Madrid’s attack.

“Arda also had a good impact on the match. He found Mbappe well, and it was important in a game where we were struggling to find rhythm, with constant stoppages,” the coach explained.

Alonso was equally impressed by Camavinga’s adaptability, particularly in his role on the left side.

“I really liked Eduardo’s performance. I think in the first half the imbalance came from the left side, where we attacked well. On this pitch, you have to adjust, and Eduardo did very well to achieve that,” he added.

The Spanish manager provided an update on his squad’s fitness situation, confirming minor concerns for both David Alaba and Thibaut Courtois.

“Alaba’s calf was tightening and we didn’t want to take risks. We’ll assess him tomorrow. Courtois had a knock,” Alonso said.

Reflecting on the performance overall, Alonso emphasised the team’s mental toughness in securing three points in a testing away fixture.

“Coming to Getafe isn’t easy. You have to compete and step up. It might not be the most beautiful game, but we stayed focused and did what we had to do. This win lets us start the week with great energy.

“Situations like that shouldn’t happen against nine players. We lost the ball and couldn’t cover properly in a numerical advantage. But I’m here with three points, and we’ll analyse everything. We shouldn’t have conceded that chance, but Courtois did his job.”
