The Heart radio presenter and TV favourite celebrated her 55th birthday this week and appears to have defied the ageing process in new pictures
Amanda Holden celebrated her 55th birthday this week and pictures posted on her social media accounts left the rest of us mere mortals marvelling at how incredible she looks. The Britain’s Got Talent judge posted a series of images on her Instagram including one where she shows off a figure which many 20-odd year olds would kill to have.
Posing in a pair of black heels and a black bodysuit, the mum of two showed no signs of the hectic lifestyle she maintains. Amanda manages to juggle parenting her two daughters Hollie and Lexi, her TV commitments, which also include her and best pal Alan Carr’s BBC renovation series where the pair travel to Europe to fix up dilapidated properties, as well as early morning rises to present the Heart Breakfast show.
You would be forgiven for thinking maintaining her youthful appearance and enviable figure is down to a strict dieting regime and avoiding certain foods as well as a punishing exercise programme. But Amanda seems to live in the real world and has spoken before about how she is all about balance and not deprivation.
She’s spoken in the past about eating and drinking ‘everything’ and says she’s in no way a slave to her fitness regime. And she also has one food rule she follows which might surprise people.
She always opts for full-fat products
Amanda has spoken about how she loves to eat cheese and butter and says she doesn’t go for lower fat options expressing her belief that life is too short for ‘half-fat’ food alternatives. While there are pros and cons to both lower fat and full fat foods, Amanda is firmly in the camp that indulges.
And it seems her philosophy on this comes after some personal heartbreak. She has said: “You have to enjoy life. I had a friend once who didn’t make it to her 50s and her biggest regret was that she spent her life on a diet. I think a little bit of everything is fine.
“Life’s too short to do fat-free, sugar-free, alcohol-free. I don’t believe in half-fat anything, I have full-fat yoghurt, butter and cheese. And I splurge on the weekends. I love wine.”
She drinks a lot of water
She might be a fan of a rose wine in the summer and a red wine in the winter months but she makes sure to maintain her hydration levels by drinking plenty of water. Amanda told the Daily Mail that water and some great genes are probably behind her Benjamin Button looks.

She said: “I drink loads of water – a lot of coconut water – but I think my skin is genetic because my nan looks amazing at 97.”
She admits she drinks water all day long and told MailOnline that, by 1pm, she’s already drunk the amount you’re recommended to for the whole day.
Coconut water is a hydrating option and it boasts many health advantages too. It is also said to have skin-moisturising properties and is rich in vitamins B2, B3 and C which is a treat for the skin.
Running over gym sessions
She’s a fan of yoga, which she says helps her breathing and calmness, and pilates, but she has admitted to not being a big fan of exercising or gym sessions. Instead she will run for a very specific time.
Amanda said she instead tends to run for 36 minutes three times a week. She explained to Cosmopolitan: “I have to run for my rose wine in the summer and run for my red wine in winter. And I don’t do it because I feel I have to; I do it for my own discipline and dignity.”
She has also told Top Sante that it’s also her way of clearing her mind and giving her some alone time.
She ‘accidentally’ fasts
With a 5am start on Heart Breakfast, Amanda is up at the crack of dawn every day and this lends itself to her mealtime regime, but admits her fasting is not really on purpose.
She said she ends up not eating for 16 hours because of her working hours and family life. She told the Daily Mail: “Accidentally I do the 16-hour fasting thing because I have my tea at six or even earlier sometimes with the girls when everyone’s at home and I won’t have my breakfast until 9am when I’m on Heart.
“Then I realise I have fasted. I am busy, I never stop and I eat loads.”
Simple switches instead of diets
If Amanda feels like she wants to shed a couple of pounds she insists she ‘doesn’t diet’ but instead just tweaks her eating habits. For example, she has told how before Christmas she might adjust her breakfast ahead of the festive season.
Chatting to her co-host co-host Jason “JK” King on Heart Breakfast previously, Amanda revealed that she had opted for boiled eggs for breakfast, saying: “I’ve ordered two hard-boiled eggs [for breakfast]. I’m trying to lose the stomach before Christmas.”
And while she doesn’t deny herself anything, she has admitted she is careful about her caffeine intake despite her eye-watering early starts. She said she has two coffees a day and always has them before 9am.
