Amazon Investment: In a major economic development aimed at creating job opportunities, the tech giant Amazon has announced an investment of over $35 billion in multiple businesses in India. The official announcement was made at the sixth edition of the Amazon Sambhav Summit in New Delhi. In addition, an economic impact report was also released by the Keystone Strategy. It stated that the upcoming investments will revolve around three factors: AI-driven digitisation, export growth, and job opportunities creation.
What does the Keystone Report suggest?
According to the Keystone Report, the tech company Amazon’s impact in India has been wide. It has digitised more than 12 million small businesses, enabled $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, and provided support to nearly 2.8 million jobs (direct, indirect, induced, and seasonal) across several industries in 2024.
What are the officials saying?
The Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets of Amazon, Amit Agarwal, said, “We are humbled to have been a part of India’s digital transformation journey over the past 15 years, with Amazon’s growth in India perfectly aligned with the vision of an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat.”
He added, “Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue being a catalyst for India’s growth, as we democratize access to AI for millions of Indians, create 1 million job opportunities, and quadruple cumulative e-commerce exports enabled to $80 billion by 2030.”
One million job opportunities by 2030
The company in its announcement mentioned that it’s planning to create over 1 million jobs in India of a direct, indirect, induced or seasonal nature. The jobs will be focused on multiple segments like logistics, packaging, manufacturing, technology, operations, customer support, and several others. The jobs will come with additional benefits like competitive payment, healthcare facilities, and formal training.
Amazon’s announcement of the massive investment comes as a relief in several ways. From the creation of job opportunities to India’s economic growth, it will play a crucial role.
