Amber Davies had to take time out of her Legally Blonde tour after her first performance back following a chest infection and missed Wednesday’s matinee for further recovery time

Amber Davies had to take time out of her Legally Blonde tour after her first performance back. The ex-Love Island winner, 29, had been starring in the leading role of Elle Woods for just four weeks when she had step back from the production as she battled a chest infection.

While she was away, the part of sorority-girl-turned lawyer Elle was covered by TikTok star Hannah Lowther, who normally takes the part on a Thursday afternoon, and while there were rumours of a “feud” developing between the pair, both actresses were quick to deny this.

The Strictly Come Dancing finalist was away from the musical for more than a fortnight while she recovered and made her grand return to the stage in Canterbury on Tuesday night, but was off again the next day.

Taking to Instagram to update her followers, Amber explained that she would be dropping down to six shows this week instead of her usual seven after consulting with her doctor.

Over the top of a selfie where she pouted in a backstage mirror, she wrote: “Before returning back as Elle after being so poorly the dr told me to “walk before I run” We decided to eliminate one show this week so I have the full day to recoup.

“So I will not be performing in todays matinee. I will be back tonight & Saturday will be my first matinee back. Easing in with 6 shows this week & back to my usual 7 shows next week!! I HAVE NO WORDS FOR LAST NIGHT ITS SO GOOD TO BE BACK!”

Last week, Amber revealed she had turned to using an oxygen tank in an attempt to combat the illness.

She wrote on Instagram: “Oxygen Tank 1 hour a day for 3 days to speed up recovering. Looks like I’ll be needing to extend my time on the antibiotics as it’s taking longer to budge than I’d anticipated. Nearly there, more rest & less street for the win. (sic)”

Legally Blonde is based on the 2001 comedy film of the same name that starred Reese Witherspoon as a sorority girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to law school in an attempt to win him back.

The production, which features songs such as So Much Better, Whipped Into Shape, and Ireland, initially opened in 2007 on Broadway before arriving in London’s West End in 2010 with Sheridan Smith in the leading role. Ex-EastEnders star Jill Halfpenny and Blue singer Duncan James also featured in the show.

Since then, the part of Elle has been played by former Coronation Street actress Faye Brookes and X Factor star Lucie Jones in various tours, but the latest production of the musical has been hit by numerous setbacks just weeks into its launch.

Just prior to that, when the show was playing in Milton Keyes, producers made the decision to stage it as a concert amid cast illness, leaving fans furious.

Taking to social media, fans called for their £70 tickets to be refunded, after the show was replaced by a “rehearsal” style performance, where cast members “sat on chairs” with some “reading from scripts.”

A video on TiKTok showed an introduction to the audience, where one of the show’s bosses said: “As you’ve probably heard by now we’ve had an extraordinary week of horrible illness through our brilliant company on and off stage.

“They’ve been working so so hard to keep the show on, and last night everyone worked through the night to make sure we have a fantastic version of the show for you today.” But fans were left disappointed.” Earlier that week, an entire performance had to be cancelled owing to illness throughout the cast.
