Former Love Island star Amber Davies has revealed the extreme lengths she has gone to to combat her illness as she takes time away from her production of Legally Blonde
Amber Davies has taken drastic action to fight off the illness that forced her out of Legally Blonde. The ex-Love Island star, 29, had been playing the part of Elle Woods in a new production of Legally Blonde: The Musical for just four weeks when she had to step back and let her understudy Hannah Lowther take centre stage as she fought off a sudden sickness.
After shooting down rumours of a backstage feud between herself and TikTok star Hannah, who normally plays Margot in the production and steps into the lead role once a week, Amber confirmed that she had a chest infection and hoped to be back on stage soon.
But on Monday afternoon, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant took to social media to update fans, where she implied she might have to be away for longer than planned as it looks like she might have to extend her latest course of antibiotics, and revealed she had turned to using an oxygen tank in an attempt to combat the illness.

She wrote on Instagram: “Oxygen Tank 1 hour a day for 3 days to speed up recovering. Looks like I’ll be needing to extend my time on the antibiotics as it’s taking longer to budge than I’d anticipated. Nearly there, more rest & less street for the win. (sic)”
Legally Blonde is based on the 2001 comedy film of the same name that starred Reese Witherspoon as a sorority girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to law school in an attempt to win him back. The production, which features songs such as So Much Better, Whipped Into Shape, and Ireland, initially opened in 2007 on Broadway before arriving in London’s West End in 2010 with Sheridan Smith in the leading role. Ex-EastEnders star Jill Halfpenny and Blue singer Duncan James also featured in the show.
Since then, the part of Elle has been played by former Coronation Street actress Faye Brookes and X Factor star Lucie Jones in various tours, but the latest production of the musical has been hit by numerous setbacks just weeks into its launch. Just days ago, when the show was playing in Milton Keyes, producers made the decision to stage it as a concert amid cast illness, leaving fans furious.
Taking to social media, fans called for their £70 tickets to be refunded, after the show was replaced by a “rehearsal” style performance, where cast members “sat on chairs” with some “reading from scripts.”
A video on TiKTok showed an introduction to the audience, where one of the show’s bosses said: “As you’ve probably heard by now we’ve had an extraordinary week of horrible illness through our brilliant company on and off stage. They’ve been working so so hard to keep the show on, and last night everyone worked through the night to make sure we have a fantastic version of the show for you today.” But fans were left disappointed.
One commented: “All love and respect for the cast doing their very best, but this is poor from the company who definitely should’ve postponed instead of trying to hold on to the money & avoid cancelling. It’s perfectly fair and valid for people to feel like they didn’t get the show they paid for with no choreography no props no costumes no sets and script reading on stage, especially people who’ve travelled for hours & the tickets weren’t cheap!”
Another added: “I would be demanding a refund. Absolute cop out by the producers/directors just to keep their money.”
It all came after rumours of a brewing feud between Amber and Hannah started to emerge, with a source telling the Daily Mail: “When Hannah goes on, the energy is completely different. She gives it ten times more energy than Amber ever has, and just has that sparkle that Amber lacks.
“Everyone backstage is professional, but it would be fair to say the atmosphere between the two girls can be a bit tense at times.” But Amber has since denied these claims, and took to Instagram to explain all to her followers.
She said: “Just to clear things up, I’m not leaving Legally, I’m not taking a break & there is no feud… I’m simply just finishing off a set of antibiotics for a chest infection that’s been lingering for over a month. I will be back on stage as soon as I possibly can. I love my @legallyblondeshow company so much and very grateful to have such a supportive team especially @hannahlowther.” The star continued to say she hopes she’s now cleared speculation up before ending her message with: “See you all for a good ol’d bend and snap ASAP.”
Hannah has previously spoken out about her relationship with her co-star, telling The Mirror when Amber was on Strictly Come Dancing: “Amber is just the sweetest, loveliest human being in the world. I’ve always wanted to go on Strictly one day!
“I’ve trained in musical theatre, but every week I watch Strictly Come Dancing and think, ‘Oh gosh, I wouldn’t know how to do that, I wouldn’t know how do that. It’s a completely different dance style, it’s completely different from our training.”
