Amitabh Bachchan will be joining the sets of Kalki 2 soon.
The massive success of his Kalki 2898 AD has once again proved why he remains an icon of Indian cinema, says producer Lagadapati Sridhar.
“I’m glad Amitabh tasted grand success with Kalki 2898 AD. He looked stunning and delivered a terrific performance as Ashwathama, something very few actors can pull off,” Sridhar said. “He remains a true institution in Indian cinema.”
He recalled that Bachchan dominated the box office in united Andhra Pradesh between the 1970s and 1990s with blockbusters such as Sholay, Amar Akbar Antony, Don, Naseeb and Coolie. He added: “Even Shehenshah opened strongly in AP. However, over time, his market in the Telugu states declined.”
Bachchan made a brief appearance in Telugu with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, starring Chiranjeevi. “Unfortunately, it failed to set the box office on fire. The role was poorly etched for an actor of Amitabh’s stature,” says director Hemanth Madhukar. However, he firmly believes Kalki has restored Bachchan’s glory in Telugu cinema.
