Jordan Love overshadowed Aaron Rodgers, and then paid tribute to the man he replaced as quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Love was back-up to Rodgers for several years but got his opportunity when the veteran left Green Bay in 2023 for the New York Jets before switching to Pittsburgh at the start of this season.

And he proved he had taken plenty of Rodgers’ advice on board with a fantastic display in which he  threw 20 straight completions for 360 yards passing and three touchdowns.

“Obviously, being behind A-Rod for three years, being able to see him and just the high-level play that he was capable of going out there and doing and being able to put the ball on the money at all times was very cool for me to be able to see,” Love said.

He played fantastic – Rodgers impressed with Love’s performance

Rodgers and Love shared a brief moment after the game and the master was impressed with how the apprentice performed.

“He played great, played fantastic,” Rodgers said. “He’s had a really nice season. He’s been really efficient with the football. He’s opportunistic, though I felt like he was very patient tonight. He took the run solutions, he took the checkdowns, moved in the pocket well. Thought he played really well.”

Love’s efforts enabled the Packers to emerge with a 35-25 win and move to 5-1-1 for the season.

The Packers’ newly acquired defensive end Micah Parsons said: “He’s showed he’s the successor.

“He’s the up-and-coming. Like J-Love, talking about when I was coming here, I was like, ‘I know they’ve got a quarterback, I know I’ve got a quarterback.’ I’m just so proud of him, everything he’s been through, how he’s developed as a player, how he’s developed as a person, and he’s just playing some really good football right now.”

It’s cool – LaFleur pleased with patient Love

Packers coach Matt LaFleur added: “It’s great for Jordan. Jordan’s worked his ass off to get here. He was patient throughout the process, throughout the journey, and he took advantage of the opportunity, he really did. It’s been cool.”

On a near-perfect night for Green Bay, they were also able to welcome back wide receiver Christian Watson, who returned after tearing an ACL in the final regular-season game last season and took four catches for 85 yards.
