Hyderabad: APSRTC on Tuesday locked and sealed the A-Block of Bus Bhavan in Hyderabad, which is at the centre of an unresolved asset dispute with TGSRTC more than 12 years after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Notices pasted on the premises said any attempt to trespass would be illegal. The building was under police protection on Monday. Sources said the matter was being handled by the chief secretaries of both states.

The dispute flared after the A-Block, which APSRTC claims belongs to it, was made of the Telangana government’s plans to house commercial tax offices in the premises without its consent.

After the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh, Bus Bhavan was divided into A Block and B Block, with each block measuring 62,500 sq ft. While APSRTC got the A-block while TGSRTC got the B-block.

Telangana RTC employee unions backed APSRTC on the issue and opposed the proposed use of the building for other government offices, saying several RTC-related issues were still unresolved.

Reacting to the development, Telangana RTC JAC organising secretary Kamalakar Goud criticised the state government. “Though the TG government has not solved the issues of RTC employees, it is eyeing the properties of the RTC… We condemn such acts.”

RTC officials did not respond to queries on the issue.

Transport experts said the final division of assets on the basis of the Sheela Bhide Committee’s recommendations was still pending, leaving both states as stakeholders in the property. They said the settlement should be completed at the earliest to avoid further disputes.
