Lily Allen recently sat down for an interview with The Observer, where she discussed both her personal and professional life. Among other things, she confirmed that although she is no longer committed to David and not involved in managing his bond with her daughters, Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose, their communication has not stopped. However, the singer refrains from getting in between them. In her words:

“I stay out of it.”

For those unaware, Lily shares her daughters with her ex-husband, Sam Cooper. The girls developed a bond with David after he began dating Lily and subsequently married her. She added that today’s kids have their own phones and perspective. The subtle answer hinted that while she was no longer a link between them, David and the girls had maintained some sort of independent relationship. Lily also emphasised that children’s emotional safety and personal boundaries are significant for her.

Earlier, Lily had spoken about how motherhood had reshaped her life, including her decision to step back from certain work commitments to be more present with her children than her parents had been. Possibly losing her stillborn son, George, in 2010 has further deepened her protective instincts, something she believes continues to influence the choices she makes for her daughters.

Recently, she has been linked to writer, Jonah Freud, drawing interest towards her cosy outings in London with him. Lily herself candidly spoke about how she has used dating apps and was once banned from Hinge, but remains on Raya.  

The ‘Madeline’ controversy and what ended Lily Allen and David Harbour’s marriage 

After a quiet split, the inside chapters from Lily and David’s divorce surfaced following the release of her album, West End Girl, particularly the song, Madeline, in which she allegedly claimed that David Harbour had violated the boundaries of their open marriage by becoming emotionally attached to someone else. Her lyrics hinted at betrayal and blurred boundaries, especially with ‘Madeline’ a.k.a. Natalie Tippett, a customer designer. The latter spoke up on social media and denied having a long-term affair with David. In turn, Natalie called Lily’s narrative “false” and “damaging,” expressing her frustration with becoming a matter of public spectacle.
