Business owners Ralph and Maria Mesiti, who have listed a landmark Arnott’s estate for sale, have downsized to a house in Drummoyne, settlement documents have revealed.

Records show the Mesitis paid $28.95 million, a suburb record, in an off-market deal to property developer Brian Boyd. The Agency’s co-founder Steven Chen, who is rumoured to have facilitated the deal, declined to comment when contacted.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom abode on about 1400 square metres comes with a pool and jetty. Interiors are neutral and include high ceilings. There is also a tennis court, pool and spa.

The $28.95 million sale is both a house and unit record for Drummoyne. A house on Drummoyne Avenue sold for $16 million in 2021, while the Sydney Harbour penthouse in the new Central Element development fetched $14 million this month in a deal facilitated by the company’s head of sales, Cameron Porter.

The landmark Arnott’s estate for sale with a price guide of over $20 million, which is classified by the National Trust, is on a block of 4500 square metres in Strathfield. It was built for the late Harold Arnott, director of Arnott’s Biscuits and the grandson of founder William Arnott.

Peter is the son of the late Sir William Tyree, who was known as the transformer tycoon thanks to his founding of the high voltage electrical transformer company Tyree Transformers.

Peter was the executive chairman and CEO of The Tyree Group from 2001 and is now semi-retired, working as an advisor to companies. He is also the chairman of the Tyree Foundation, which invests in education and research in engineering and medical science to improve the country for future generations.

The estate for sale consists of a barn and the main two-storey, two-bedroom, three-bathroom residence, designed by Peter alongside an architect, and a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house. There is also a flat attached to the garage and a studio.

Over two years Peter set out to create a barn that would allow for complete off-grid living, be energy efficient, while also luxurious and state of the art. The interiors, such as the stone fireplace, raked ceilings and timber detail were inspired from his time living in Switzerland.

The barn has solar panels, advanced battery storage and a diesel generator.

The couple have also updated the original residence, replacing the doors and lightening the palette.

Alongside the accommodation, there are dams, a dressage arena, horse shelters and stables, a veterinary area, wine cellar, terraces and fire pit.

The property is being sold through Matthew Anstee and Kristy Tuddenham of Raine & Horne Southern Highlands.

Palatial Mosman home sells

The Mosman estate owned by Mengyao Ling, the former business partner of Olympian Michael Klim, has sold for about $40 million, local sources have revealed.

A sold sticker went up on the listing indicating a sale by private treaty on December 11. Listing agents Anna Chen and Guido Scatizzi of BresicWhitney declined to comment on any aspect of the sale. The exact sale price and buyer’s identity will be revealed at settlement.

Ling purchased the seven-bedroom, six-bathroom residence in Clifton Gardens for $22 million in 2020 from prominent dentist Daniel Adamo and his wife, former recruitment boss Katie.

The five-storey mansion is on a 1792-square metre harbourfront parcel and offers panoramic Opera House and Harbour Bridge views. There is a tennis court, infinity pool, gym and cinema.

Interiors include French Oak Herringbone floors, Calacatta marble in the chef’s kitchen, handcrafted tiles and French windows.

Chen showed close to 100 groups through the property and has noticed great demand for architectural homes along the lower north shore.

“Working with several buyers in this price range this year shows a clear pattern that’s emerging – they’re focusing on specific pockets of Mosman,” she said.

“The market is watched very closely by buyers and sellers at this level, so I’d expect to see more activity of this nature next year.”

Another palatial home in Mosman sold for about $50 million in October, making it both a suburb record and north shore record.

A deal was made just days before the estate officially launched to market.
