Two custodians of a private firm handling ATM cash replenishments allegedly fled with `1.2 crore meant for refills in the SR Nagar police station limits. The case was registered based on a complaint by Naveen, the branch manager of CMS Info Systems Limited in Secunderabad. The firm collects cash from banks and deposits it in ATMs based on capacity, police said.

An audit of 31 ATMs in SR Nagar, Ameerpet and surrounding areas revealed that cash was missing from eight machines. The shortage was found during a routine verification, police said.

In his complaint, Naveen said that the inward data of the company showed a total shortfall of ₹1,20,98,500. A police officer confirmed the discrepancy.

Police suspect two custodians as they have not reported to duty and are not responding to calls. Three persons, who have been captured in the CCTV footage collected by the IT teams, have reportedly been detained by the accused custodians

Tenant farmer ends life over debt

A 25‑year‑old tenant farmer, who had taken land on lease, died by suicide at Mandapally in Dammapeta mandal of Bhadradri‑Kothagudem district on Sunday, reportedly due to financial distress.

The victim, Adapa Narsimha Rao alias Chanti, had leased 130 acres to cultivate maize. Police said he suffered heavy losses as the crop yield fell below expectations. Struggling with debt and depression, he took the extreme step at his home in the early hours of Sunday. He leaves behind a wife and two children. Dammapeta police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the government hospital at Aswaraopeta for post‑mortem.

Nalgonda police foil ‘WAVE’ fraud

Nalgonda rural police on Sunday foiled an attempt by representatives of a group of companies to launch an alleged financial fraud under the name of “WAVE”. The group had earlier allegedly duped people of hundreds of crores of rupees.

Ten agents were arrested, including Kanala Lakshminarayana Rao of Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad; Punnam Balakrishna of Marroor; Uyyala Srinivas of Elikatte; Kurakula Ramesh and Madagoni Saidulu of Nalgonda city; Gajula Mahesh of Dorepalli; Kola Kushalayya of Kakula Kondaram; Mudusu Uma Shankar of Munukuntla; Oruganti Shankar of Appajipeta; and Gudapuri Lingaswamy of Kattangur.

The key accused — VIPS Group CEO Vinod Tukaram Khute and directors Sumit Purank, Kalyan Chakravarthy, Gummala Satyanarayana and Gummula Abhinash — remain absconding.

Presenting the arrested persons at a media conference, additional superintendent of police G. Ramesh said Khute and his agents had cheated people by offering high returns and cashback schemes. In 2025, a case was filed against them under the BNS, Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act; and the Protection of Interests of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Act, 1999.

Police said the group had conspired to relaunch fraudulent schemes under the “WAVE” brand, promising high returns. Acting on information, officers arrested 10 agents, who confessed they planned to lure VIPS customers by promising to return earlier investments if they reinvested ₹1 lakh in the new company.

Police cautioned the public to remain vigilant against such frauds, noting that fraudsters often demonstrate small profits initially to build trust before persuading victims to invest large sums.

Painter drowns in quarry at Arundhatinagar

A 23‑year‑old painter, Vallapu Mahesh, drowned in a quarry at Arundhatinagar while attempting to retrieve a ball during a picnic. He had been living with his grandmother Lingamma since childhood after losing both his parents.

On Sunday, Mahesh informed his grandmother that he was going out for a swim and headed to a nearby quarry along with his friends. While they were in the water, they noticed a ball floating in a deeper section of the water body. In an attempt to grab it, Mahesh and others moved further inside.

During the process, Mahesh reportedly lost his footing and began to drown. His friends tried to rescue him but failed to pull him out as he slipped further into the water. They informed the locals and the police, who in turn alerted the Disaster Response Force (DRF) team and launched a rescue operation. Mahesh’s body was then retrieved from the quarry.

Ambulance personnel examined him and declared him dead at the scene. Based on a complaint lodged by his grandmother, police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

Teenager dies in Gachibowli bike crash

A teenager, Prabhu Kiran, succumbed to injuries in a road accident near Gachibowli Stadium during the early hours of Sunday. Prabhu was travelling as a pillion rider on a bike along with his friend Vishnu when the accident occurred, police said.

According to the complaint lodged by his father Yadaiah with Gachibowli police, the duo left home late on Saturday night on the bike and did not return for several hours. The father repeatedly tried contacting his son, but received no response. In the early hours of Sunday, an unidentified person answered the call and informed him that his son had met with an accident near Gachibowli Stadium Gate No. 2 U‑turn and died.

The father rushed to the accident spot and learnt that his son had been shifted to Kondapur Area Hospital. On reaching the hospital, he found his son dead.

Police said the accident occurred when the bike was travelling from Nallagandla to Gachibowli and was hit by a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. While Prabhu Kiran succumbed to injuries on the spot, Vishnu, who was riding the bike, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Osmania Hospital. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Forgery racket busted in Hayathnagar

Hayathnagar police have cracked a cheating and forgery case in which a group duped a man of ₹43 lakh using fake documents and blackmail. Two prime accused have been arrested and remanded, while efforts continue to trace the remaining suspects.

According to police, the case was registered following a complaint by Aita Raju Anjaneyulu, who stated that the accused initially gained his trust by offering to sell him a house for ₹27.5 lakh. The victim paid an advance and later handed over an additional ₹23 lakh in instalments. However, the accused failed to register the property, citing various pretexts.

Subsequently, they claimed the money had been invested in two plots and offered to sell them to the victim for ₹46 lakh. To make the deal appear genuine, they allegedly forged agreements with fake signatures. Believing them, the victim paid a total of ₹43 lakh. Despite repeated assurances, the plots were never registered in his name.

Investigations revealed that the accused misused the victim’s money for personal expenses and other real estate dealings. The main accused, Aitaraju Shankarayya and Adepu Ramu, were arrested and remanded.

Police seized mobile phones from the accused and confirmed that forged documents were used to cheat the victim. The remaining suspects are absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

Teacher robbed of gold on bus

A 52‑year‑old government teacher from Nakrekal in Nalgonda district lost gold ornaments weighing nearly 20 tolas while travelling in a public transport bus.

The complainant, Pothula Devayani, resident of Nakrekal, told LB Nagar police that she had packed a gold chain and a necklace in a box and placed it inside her luggage before boarding an electric bus to visit her sister at Chandrapuri Colony in LB Nagar.

On reaching her destination, she was shocked to find the ornaments missing, with only the empty box left inside. Suspecting foul play, she approached the bus depot and reviewed CCTV footage of the journey.

Verification revealed two unidentified women boarding the bus at Nakrekal Central. One sat beside the complainant, while the other stood nearby. Their movements appeared suspicious, and both alighted at Narketpally shortly afterwards.

Devayani suspects the duo diverted her attention and stole the ornaments during the journey. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.

Labour rights activist dies of illness

Noorjahan, 45, state committee member of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and district general secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), passed away at a hospital on Saturday after a brief illness.

With her demise, the labour movement, particularly in the unorganised sector, has lost a strong and committed leader.

Noorjahan’s life was marked by relentless struggle for workers’ rights. Under the banner of CITU, she spearheaded several movements advocating for Anganwadi workers, ASHA staff, Gram Panchayat employees, and municipal workers. She consistently raised issues such as low wages, poor working conditions, and lack of job security, and played a key role in bringing workers’ concerns to the attention of the government.

Leaders from various organisations condoled her death. CPI(M) State Secretary John Wesley, State Executive Member Abbas, and Nataka members Prasad paid tributes. CITU State Vice President Bhupal and Jayalakshmi also expressed grief.

Party leader Vijaya Raghavan, All India Agricultural Workers’ Union Secretary P. Venkat, CID State General Secretary Bhaskar, and Vice President S. Shram conveyed their condolences and remembered her as a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of workers.

Man held for attempting to electrocute mother-in-law in Jagtial

A domestic dispute nearly turned fatal after a man allegedly attempted to electrocute his mother-in-law in Jagadevpet village of Velgatoor mandal in Jagtial district on Sunday.

The accused, Gagireddy Mallareddy, 48, was arrested by Velgatoor police following a complaint lodged by the victim, Rajamma.

According to police, the incident stemmed from a long-standing marital dispute between Mallareddy and his wife Padma, who were married 25 years ago. Following frequent quarrels, Padma had moved to her parents’ house along with their two children.

Harbouring resentment against his mother-in-law, whom he blamed for the separation, Mallareddy allegedly planned to eliminate her. Under the cover of night, he reportedly connected live electrical wires to the metal parts of the doors at Rajamma’s house, intending to electrocute her when she opened them in the morning. However, Rajamma narrowly escaped with a mild shock when she opened the door at dawn. Suspecting foul play, she alerted neighbours and later approached the police.
Police inspected the scene and found evidence of electrical tampering. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempted murder. He was taken into custody and remanded.

Illegal LPG Refilling Racket Busted in Jalpally; One Arrested

Police busted an illegal gas refilling activity and arrested one Datta Baburao Mane for unauthorised handling and sale of LPG cylinders in Jalpally on Sunday. The Pahadishareef police, acting on credible information, raided the gas repairing shop located in Sriram Colony, Balapur police said. They found Mane refilling gas from domestic LPG cylinders into smaller cylinders without valid licences or authorisation.

He allegedly confessed that he has been engaging in the illegal gas refilling activity for the past 1-2 months. Officials found an empty domestic cylinder and a full domestic cylinder, a five-kilogram and a four-kilogram empty cylinder and a gas filling pipe. Authorities registered a case under Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act and are investigating the case. They stated that Mane has been taken into custody, and they seized the cylinders for further legal action.

Ganja-Crazed Bikers Go on a Rampage in Jiyaguda, Assault Elderly Auto Driver

Two bikers reportedly under the influence of ganja created a ruckus in Jiyaguda, driving their vehicles in a dangerous manner and threatening motorists, Kulsumpura police said. During their run, they reportedly rammed into an autorickshaw and tried to attack the elderly driver.

A local, Mahipal, said he had his friend Joginder Singh had tried to stop the duo. “They were abusive and threatened us with dire consequences if we didn’t stop chasing them,” Mahipal said.

“As we slowed our bike, they hit an autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction. They tried to attack its driver,” Mahipal alleged. The accused then came across a car with another elderly person at the wheel, and allegedly threatened him.

By then, locals had gather at the spot and tried to force the duo into a narrow lane in Jiyaguda. They escaped but returned with their associates, went to the autorickshaw driver’s house and assaulted him.

One of the locals called the Kulsumpura police who went to the scene and commenced investigations. Police also checked CCTV footage. Sources said the accused who belonged to a nearby locality had been identified through their vehicle number.

Car Gutted in Fire Sparked by Careless Smoking at Paramount Colony

Careless cigarette smoking led to a fire at a parking lot near Paramount Colony in which a parked car was gutted. “We received a fire call at 7 pm and rushed with Panjagutta’s station’s multi-purpose water tender. The crew extinguished the fire,” said Jubilee Hills station house officer P. Sai Reddy. Officials said the swift action of the fire brigade ensured that the fire did not spread. There were no reports casualties, Sai Reddy said.
