The Prime Minister was moved to an alternative secure location while authorities assessed the situation.
It’s understood the AFP attended the residence shortly before 8:40 p.m., with security protocols enacted as a precaution.
It is understood the Prime Minister was not injured and there is no immediate ongoing threat to the public.
SBS News was first to report on Tuesday night that police were dispatched to the property.
In a statement the Australian Federal Police said: “A thorough search of a protection establishment has commenced and is still ongoing.
“There is no current threat to the community or public safety.”
Investigations remain underway, with authorities yet to detail the nature of the alleged threat.
The incident comes amid heightened concern about threats directed at elected officials across Australia.
In recent months, federal MPs have reported a spike in abusive and menacing communications, including online threats that have prompted police referrals.
The Australian Federal Police has previously warned of an increasingly volatile environment fuelled by misinformation, geopolitical tensions and extremist rhetoric.
Last year, several parliamentarians were granted additional security advice following credible threats, and intelligence agencies have cautioned that lone-actor extremism remains one of the most significant security risks.
Monday night’s evacuation is expected to renew debate about security settings for senior political leaders.
