Eighteen months after she crossed the line second, Australia’s Torrie Lewis has won the 200-metre world under-20 gold medal as the first “clean” athlete over the line.

And her compatriot Jess Milat, who originally missed the medals in fourth place, has now won the bronze after the gold medallist was found to be a drug cheat.

“Maybe a bit weird to post 1.5 years later but today I got the news that I was the 1st clean runner across the line in the 200m U20 championships in 2024. So after the DQ of the runner who tested positive, I can happily say I am the 2024 u20 200m world champ,” Lewis, now aged 21, posted on Instagram.

British Virgin Islands sprinter Adaejah Hodge, who was awarded the 200m gold in Lima, Peru, has been banned for two years after testing positive to using banned substances, with a number of her results annulled, including the 100m and 200m gold she won at the under-20 championships.

Lewis crossed the line thinking Hodge had pipped her for gold, but happy with her silver medal, while Milat was equally happy with her run even despite thinking she’d missed out on a medal.

“4th in the World! So grateful to everyone that got me here 🫶✨🌏,” Milat posted on Instagram at the time.

It was the same under-20 world championships where Australian Gout Gout won silver in the male 200m behind a runner 18 months older than him.

Gout has one final chance to win a world juniors gold later this year, after opting to compete at the event in Eugene, Oregon, rather than at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

If he can win, he will now join Lewis as a 200m under-20 world champion.
