There were no surprises in the 2026 Spanish Cup.
Barceloneta won its 22nd Spanish Cup (Copa El Rey) and its 14th in a row.
The Final Eight took place in Terrassa. Barceloneta defeated Sabadell 11:5 in the gold medal match. That was the 5th consecutive encounter between Barceloneta and Sabadell in the Spanish Cup finals.
Barceloneta cruised to the final, beating Mediterrani in the quarterfinals (19:3) and Sant Andreu (18:5) in the semifinals.
Sabadell faced two demanding tasks on the first two days of the tournament. Its first rival was Barcelona. In the middle of the second quarter, Barcelona had a 5:2 lead. But Sabadell started dominating then. It went on an 8:1 run, building a 10:6 lead early in the fourth period. A minute and a half before the end, Sabadell was four steps ahead of Barcelona, 12:8. Barcelona scored the last three goals, but it was too late; Sabadell reached the semifinals with a 12:11 victory.
Sabadell beat Terrassa 11:7 in the semifinals. In the middle of the third period, only a goal separated the rivals (Sabadell led 6:5). Sabadell then scored five straight goals to jump to 11:5 and secured the victory.
Barceloneta’s good start set the tone of the final. The reigning champion had a 3:0 lead after the first eight minutes. In the middle two quarters, the teams traded goals. Sabadell reduced the gap to two goals on three occasions, but couldn’t come closer. Two minutes before the end of the third period, the score was 6:3. Alejandro Bustos and Unai Biel closed this period with action goals, and Barceloneta headed into the final period with a comfortable 8:3 lead. In the fourth period, Barceloneta increased the margin to six. Ten seconds before the end, goalkeeper Unai Aguirre sealed his team’s win, scoring to set the final score – 11:5.
