Drag artist La Voix’s career has gone from strength to strength in recent years, as they appear on the BBC’s Big Night of Musical’s, the Mirror takes a look at the star’s life off-screen
Drag artist La Voix has taken British TV by storm in recent years – and now the star is taking on musicals as well. Appearing on the BBC’s Big Night of Musicals by the National Lottery tonight (March 28), the iconic former Drag Race star will be taking on the role of Miss Hannigan with the Annie cast.
Speaking ahead of the show, La Voix, 45, said it was “sensational” to be involved, but admitted to being more than a little nervous at the size of the venue, adding: “We haven’t even started rehearsals for the tour yet. Talk about a warm-up! It really is early doors. I think the kids have already nailed it, and I need to play catch-up. But it’s exciting to be working eight nights a week.”
Taking on the role of villain is a new challenge for La Voix, who has leaned towards comic performances over the years. Joking, they told the BBC, “I think it’s going to be quite nice to just find the bitterness and the meanness in every step on that stage. I’m going to really enjoy just being mean, although I don’t quite know how I’m going to find that. Maybe I’ll have to really start drinking the gin, so I’m just slightly hungover every time”

The Drag sensation took part in Strictly Come Dancing back in 2025, and couldn’t wait to take part in what she called a “national institution”, something she had been itching to do for years. Speaking before the series started, the flamboyant entertainer, who rose to prominence on Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, declared: “Strictly is a national institution and I can’t wait to get started. All that’s left to say is: good luck to my partner! Here’s hoping they can help me go from La Voix into La Danse.”
However, in November, the performer had to pull out of the show because of a foot injury, saying, “This isn’t the ending I imagined, but I’ll cherish this forever,” in a post on their Instagram.
Yet while her focus has been firmly on training alongside fourteen other famous faces vying for the prestigious glitterball trophy, there’s been an unexpected twist involving last year’s Christmas special champion, Tayce.
Drag performer Tayce triumphed in the celebrity festive edition last year, with supporters anticipating her participation in the main competition. However, La Voix secured the spot instead, and the two haven’t been in contact since.
Speaking to The Sun before Strictly’s launch, La Voix revealed the pair haven’t communicated. She explained: “I haven’t, I know I’ve never met Tayce. But I’m hoping that some of that winning glitter sort of sprinkles down on me this season. Because she did amazingly, to win the show, it was incredible.” At the time, Tayce was paired with professional dancer Kai Widdrington and achieved an impressive perfect score of 40 points for her dazzling Cha-Cha-Cha to Kylie Minogue’s 100 Degrees.
Expressing her frustration at being overlooked, Tayce turned to social media shortly after the complete line-up was announced. She wrote: “Guess I was too much.” The message was punctuated with a glitterball emoji.
A television source revealed to The Sun: “Strictly have long wanted a drag artist on the show and Tayce has exceeded everyone’s expectations. She was an incredible competitor, and the viewers clearly loved her. ” They continued: “Tayce is a shoo-in for the main show in the autumn now and will be approached in the New Year about taking part. Strictly bosses are keen to get her on board as they start planning for the next show.”
La Voix, born Christopher Dennis, was raised in Stockton-on-Tees before relocating to London at 18 to pursue drama studies at Brunel University. By 2015, she had emerged as a finalist in Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK Ambassador competition, reaching the ultimate showdown but narrowly missing out to the late, great The Vivienne.
Most recently, she appeared on series six of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. Following an impressive run that saw her triumph in four challenges, she secured the runner-up position. While La Voix keeps her romantic life private, she has acknowledged how her parents’ acceptance of her sexuality has been fundamental to building her self-assurance.
Big Night of Musicals airs this evening (March 28) from 7:45 pm on BBC One.
