Geordie Shore star, Holly Hagan, has warned parents after revealing her son ended up in hospital. Sharing a photo of little Alpha-Jax, two, with a severely swollen eye, she explained the tot has been very unwell.
Captioning a photo of her son, Holly, who is expecting her second child, wrote: “If your child’s eye or even your eye does this you need to seek medical attention urgently.” Explaining that she initially thought her son was simply suffering from a bout of conjunctivitis, she continued: “He has no other symptoms, completely normal within himself.
“We initially thought conjunctivitis and were advised to go to the chemist. He hadn’t had any eye gunk at all since he woke up so they just sent us back to the doctor, I initially thought he’s irritated it and got a bit of an infection in it, but the doctor said it was peri orbital cellulitis.”
Periorbital cellulitis is an infection of the eyelid and area around the eye, which is often caused by scratches, bug bites and infections. It can also follow a minor injury to the eye.
According to the NHS, the bacterial infection is usually treatable with antibiotics, but requires prompt medical attention to prevent complications.
Explaining that Alpha-Jax, is now, thankfully, recovering, after initially struggling to swallow his medication due to the taste, Holly, who is married to footballer, Jacob Blyth, concluded: “A lot of parents said they waited and ended up in hospital as it spread to orbital cellulitis.
“His eye is much better today and doesn’t seem to be worsening but I just wanted to share as I didn’t think it was anything serious, and it can be if not treated”.
It’s been a rough few months for Holly, who tragically lost her beloved sister Darci last year. Holly has spoken candidly about her heartbreak as she tries to comes to terms with her devastating loss.
Happily, however, she is now preparing to welcome her baby daughter into the world after she and Jacob found out they were expecting a girl at Christmas.
In a post shared on Instagram, Jacob could be seen with a confetti cannon in his hand as Holly and Alpha-Jax stood excitedly next to the Christmas tree.
Both Jacob and Holly said beforehand that they hoped it would be a girl, and Holly admitted she had been getting “girl vibes”.
They then asked their son what he would like, and as he sweetly admitted he would like a sister before they found out their happy news.
