Overcast conditions and intermittent showers will continue in Brisbane for at least a week, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Showers overnight brought 5 to 15 millimetres of rain, though Logan and northern Brisbane saw 20 to 40 millimetres. The Sunshine Coast had showers dump up to 90 millimetres.
“We still expect a few more waves of showers throughout the day,” senior meteorologist Shane Kennedy said.
“We’ll see at least another 5 to 10 millimetres through the Brisbane area, an extra 20 millimetres or so over the Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast.”
Wind gusts overnight were recorded at 50 to 60 kilometres an hour generally, though near the bay and on the islands they reached 80 to 90km/h.
Weather will still be unsettled over the weekend, with isolated showers.
“It should only be a few millimetres in general, probably a bit more likely on Sunday than Saturday,” Kennedy said.
“That still could be a bit of a nuisance for people’s weekend plans, but it’s certainly a lot lighter than we’ve had.”
Generally showery conditions will persist next week, with fairly light rain anticipated.
“Overnight we had a small pocket of some deeper moisture that got pushed across and gave us those more sustained and widespread showers, whereas overnight tonight and across the weekend, we’ll have some slightly drier air move over, and so that’ll make those showers a bit shorter and a bit patchier and lighter overall.”
Temperatures are expected to stay mild, hovering in the high 20s.
“It’s about average when we move over to March, slightly milder than we’ve seen over the past few days, where we’ve been into the low 30s.”
February has been a dry month overall, and current rainy conditions are not expected to bring totals up to average levels.
“It should at least be some welcome rain for those yards which may be struggling a bit this month,” Kennedy said.
“Compared to February averages, we’re typically sitting at around 10 to 20 per cent of what we’d expect during February. In Brisbane City, for example, we tend to see around 170 millimetres of February, but we’re running at about 60.
“It’s been even drier a bit further west.”
