Britney Spears was arrested in California for driving under the influence and her representatives have said they hope with will be the “first step in long overdue change” for the singer
Audio from a 911 emergency services dispatch has revealed that Britney Spears was “speeding” in and out of lanes before she was arrested for driving under the influence. The Toxic singer was arrested late on Wednesday 4 March.
According to a call made by the 911 dispatcher to police officers in the LA area, Britney’s Black BMW was going “in and out of lanes… speeding”. They clarified that it was a 2006 convertible BMW sedan coming out of Los Angeles.
An officer was then heard asking: “Can we send all units down towards this area please?” Units responded with the exact location of the car and reiterated the vehicle description.

The audio, obtained by Page Six, then revealed another officer, who told those on the line that they were “talking with the driver” and had gotten her out of the vehicle.
The vehicle was the same one Britney was seen driving dangerously in Thousand Oaks, California, in October 2025. This time, she was arrested by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County, at roughly 9:28pm local time on Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, around 3am, she was booked. But she was released three house later, pending a court appearance on 4 May, according to TMZ. The singer’s representatives told The Mirror that Britney’s actions were “completely inexcusable”.
They said: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
Britney has not publicly commented on reports of her arrest, but her Instagram account does seem to no longer be active. Earlier today it was reported the Toxic singer, whose highs and lows have been very publicly documented, was granted a permanent restraining order against a Louisiana man after her security team claimed he showed up at her home after making “disturbing social media posts”.
It’s understood she filed court documents against the 51 year old man, called Donald, and claimed he had been harassing her since 2013, TMZ reports. It’s understood Donald was arrested for trespassing on her property in 2025. He has been ordered to stay 100 yards away from the singer by a court after he was found by Britney’s security, who contacted the sheriff’s department, who found the man shaking at the scene and smoking cigarettes.
The star has faced well-documented troubles over the years as she was placed into a conservatorship from 2008 until 2021. Her father was placed in front of her career, personal life and finances. Britney was released from the conservatorship after she accused her dad of “conservatorship abuse”. Following the termination of the conservatorship in light of the #FreeBritney movement, Britney has spoken out about her experience – slamming her family in a post just last month.
In a lengthy post on social media, shared in February, she revealed: “As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone … for those of you in your family that have said to help you is to isolate you and make you feel unbelievably left out … they were wrong.
“We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget. Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial !!! I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them.”
