Britney Spears’ former husband, Sam Asghari, has spoken out after his ex-wife was arrested in California on Thursday for Driving Under the Influence

Britney Spears’ ex-husband has said people “make mistakes” after her arrest. The global hitmaker was arrested in California after being booked for Driving Under the Influence by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office on March 5.

Spears, 44, was subsequently allocated a booking number, and records show her gender was listed as female and her race as white. Britney was arrested at 9:30pm local time and detained by the Sheriff’s department around 3am local time. She was subsequently released from jail just hours later.

It’s claimed that the singer was “crying a lot” when she was being booked. Now, Sam Asghari, who split from Britney in August 2023 after just 14 months of marriage, has spoken out.

Iranian-American model Sam, 32, briefly touched on his ex-wife’s arrest as he spoke about the ongoing Middle East war between Iran and the United States. “You know, my focus has been on the Iran situation because this was such a huge situation that deserved my full attention,” he said.

Speaking on NewsNation, Sam added: “As it goes in my past… I cannot skip the past, I celebrate the past… and I think everybody makes mistakes and everybody deserves privacy. I’d like to stay focused on the situation cause it is bigger than everything right now. And I am fully responsible to be focused on that.”

Meanwhile, Britney’s first husband, who she was married to for just 55 hours said on social media: “Everyone needs to slow down with the headlines about Britney Spears. If reports are accurate that she blew a .06, that is below the legal limit in most states. If the only substances in her system were legally prescribed medications, that changes the narrative completely.

“At most, what is being discussed right now could potentially amount to minor misdemeanor charges- things like reckless driving or simple possession if a substance was found in the car. But the internet has already jumped straight to ‘drunk driving,’ ‘rehab,’ and all kinds of speculation that hasn’t been proven.

“Britney Spears deserves the same thing anyone else does: facts, fairness, and due process -not headlines built on speculation.” Shortly after the news of Britney’s arrest was made public, her manager told the Mirror: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.

“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success for well-being.” Britney is yet to comment on her arrest, but her Instagram account appears to have been deactivated. Yesterday it was reported the Toxic singer, whose highs and lows have been very publicly documented, was granted a permanent restraining order against a Louisiana man after her security team claimed he showed up at her home after making “disturbing social media posts”.
