This came only a few hours before her sister was arrested for driving under the influence by the California Highway Patrol on Wednesday, 4 March.Britney Spears was detained around 9:30pm local time. According to the police dispatch call, she was seen speeding and swerving in and out of lanes in her BMW. She was later transported to custody, where she was booked around 3am on Thursday morning and later released.

Sources speaking to TMZ claimed Britney was found with an “unknown substance” in her car and that tests were being carried out to determine exactly what this was.

Britney is said to be “very sorry” following her arrest. Speaking to PageSix, a source said: “She was incredibly emotional, it’s been a very hard couple of months. She felt ashamed and embarrassed and is very sorry.”

The Toxic singer is also thought to be fearful of being “judged” by the public, as she reportedly does not want to disappoint her fans. Back in September, many were concerned about her wellbeing after she posted a string of worrying posts on social media, including one where she seemed to be completely unclothed.

This has come four years after the end of her conservatorship. In 2008, the star was placed under a conservatorship that placed her father Jamie Spears in charge of her financial affairs and daily life. Throughout this period, Britney alleges she was coerced into taking medication, banned from driving and “forced” to complete her 2018 Piece Of Me world tour against her wishes.

In 2020, close friend Paris Hilton condemned the arrangement, stating: “It breaks my heart that people have so much control over her. It’s not fair to be an adult and treated like a child.” The conservatorship was ended in 2021 following an extensive campaign from fans called the Free Britney movement.

In 2021, Britney and Jamie Lynn were caught in a feud on social media. Britney accused her sister of knowing about and and actively being involved in her conservatorship without making any efforts to help her end it. Jamie Lynn denied this and said she was unaware of how abusive the conservatorship was. After Jamie Lynn spoke extensively about her sister in her book and its promotional tour, Britney threatened her with legal action.

Since her concerning social media posts and arrest, some supporters have shared that they feel Britney needs help. One wrote: “Someone got to make sure she take her meds, hide the knives and cover her up.” Another said: “She clearly NEEDS help. Anyone who enables this behaviour is unwell.” A third remarked, “This is incredibly sad. She’s obviously very ill.”

Britney’s representatives told the Mirror: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

They added: “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being.”
