Savanaah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie has been missing since January 31, 2026. The 84-year-old author was asleep in her home when, reportedly, she was taken against her will. Since February 1, 2026, a search mission has been underway, but no prime suspect or traces of Nancy Guthrie have been found. Earlier, a photo of the alleged suspect was shared along with several identifying details.

It was recently revealed that the suspect could be international, while earlier it was being stated that it was possible that the kidnapper might be from Tucson, given that the ransom notes were shared with the local stations, which gave people the idea that the kidnapper is very much aware of the locality. A demand of several dollars in Bitcoin was made by the alleged kidnapper. But can the transfer, if made, trace the abductor? Let’s have a look.

Can Bitcoin trace Nancy Guthrie’s abductor?

Earlier, it was stated that the demanded amount was to be paid in Bitcoin because the abductor was aware that a bank transfer could increase the likelihood of tracing them. Recently, Parade interviewed Tony Yazbeck, co-founder of The Bitcoin Way, to learn how the transfer works.

He revealed that it could very much be the case that the payment was said to be done in Bitcoin so that the abductor couldn’t be traced. But can the Bitcoin transfer track the abductor? As per Tony, it’s very much possible. He said:

“Oh yes, Bitcoin transfers are very traceable. Every transaction is recorded publicly on the blockchain forever. Anyone can follow the path of coins from one address to another. What’s not automatically visible is who owns a specific address. Bitcoin doesn’t use named accounts like a bank does. It uses addresses, which are just strings of characters. If an address ever gets linked to a real person through an exchange, a service, or sloppy behavior, then past and future transactions tied to that address can often be connected back to them.”

Is Nancy Guthrie’s family behind her abduction? The Sheriff reveals

Nancy’s family has been going through a tough time, and in several videos, they pleaded with people to help if they have any tips, along with requesting the kidnapper to ensure that Savannah’s mother is safe and sound. It was Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso, who grabbed the attention. Tommaso was the last person to see Nancy Guthrie, as he drove her home.

A journalist later stated that it could be possible that Tommaso is a person of interest in this case. However, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department revealed that there was no prime suspect found in this case as of now. Well, recently, Sheriff Chris Nanon revealed to Fox News whether Nancy Guthrie’s family is involved in her abduction. He shared that it’s just getting out of hand outside with the allegations around. The sheriff stated that the family did everything they were asked to do. The sheriff further added that people should stop accusing others of such a horrific crime and have any facts around it. The sheriff shared:

“The family has been fully, 100 per cent completely, whatever we asked for, they’ve done. It was getting crazy out there with allegations about the family. You can’t accuse people of a horrific crime like that and not have any facts behind it.”

Why did the Pima County Sheriff’s Department allegedly block the FBI from accessing key evidence in Nancy Guthrie’s abduction case?

The FBI got their hands on gloves, DNA and other things in Nancy Guthrie’s abduction case. However, later, an FBI agent revealed to Reuters that they had been blocked from accessing the key evidence. If the reports are to be believed, the FBI requested to send the physical evidence in this case to the bureau’s national crime lab in Quantico; however, as per the official, Sheriff Chris Nanos has insisted that they should use a private lab in Florida. Now, Nanos talked about the same in an interview with KVOA. He said that there’s no truth in this.

Nanos further added that they would take criticism when the entire work is done and dusted, but right now, he and his team would focus on the search mission for Nancy Guthrie. As per a report by PEOPLE, recently, the DNA of someone who doesn’t belong to Nancy or her close family members was found. As per the department, the investigators are trying to find out to whom this DNA belongs. The team didn’t disclose any details about the same, but it was stated that investigators are not ruling out any individuals or possibilities.
