Carolyn Bessette Kennedy is back in the limelight following Disney Plus’ new series Love Story, and we’re just as obsessed with her minimalist style now as we were in the 90s

The new Disney Plus series Love Story has skyrocketed Carolyn Bessette Kennedy back into the limelight, and it turns out she’s still just as much of an it girl now as she was in the 90s. Notorious for her timeless, minimalist style and understated beauty, we’re all just as desperate now for her makeup tips as we were back in the 90s.

Although Carolyn was notorious for keeping her lips sealed about most of her favourite products, there are some beauty items that she was said to love. According to Elle, Carolyn was rumoured to be a fan of the Mac Lip Pencil in the shade Spice, and it’s the perfect shade for all skin tones.

Spice is a warm, cinnamon-pink or mid-tone brownish-nude shade with a matte finish, and it’s been a cult classic shade ever since the 90s. The Mac Lip Pencil itself is creamy and highly pigmented, making it a makeup bag staple for everyone from MUAs to models, and is perfect for giving your lips some definition.

Another rumoured beauty favourite of Carolyn’s was the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour in shade Ruby, which is consistently sold out everywhere. However, we’ve managed to track down some still in stock at Selfridges, where you can pick it up for £29.

Both products can be used together too to create Carolyn’s classic beauty look, which was usually characterised by quite a bare, pared-back face with a bolder lip. The Spice shade of the Mac Lip Pencil also works well with all kinds of different lipstick shades, from warm browns and neutrals to brighter pink tones.

You can pick it up at LookFantastic for £20, and it can be worn on its own with a simple slick or lip gloss over it. Alternatively, wear it to define your lips and create a barrier to stop your favourite lipstick from bleeding or smudging.

The Mac Lip Pencil has also been a hit with fans, with one LookFantastic shopper saying: “This lip liner is really good, works so well with my Mac lipstick, stays on really well and defines my lips well.”

Another agreed: “Lovely colour it goes with most of my lipgloss very happy with it.”

Whilst a third praised: “Just got back into the habit of using a lip liner, and wanted a ‘go with anything’ shade. Replaced my ancient stub of this pencil with a new one because this is very versatile and works great with the more neutral lipstick shades I favour. Had forgotten how using a liner does help both shape, and longevity.”

One did mention, however: “Lovely match with the lipstick but I did find the liner to be harsh not soft.”

And another agreed: “I love Mac products and have a few of these pencils. The latest ones (subculture) seem to be very hard and so I have to press strongly and drag to get any colour. It might be the shade that’s the problem but I don’t think it is.”
