What caused Carrie Everett’s death?

Carrie Everett’s family has confirmed that she passed away on April 5, 2026, after fighting stomach cancer. According to a statement shared with WRAL News, Carrie passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday. Her loved ones surrounded the 22-year-old during the final moments of her life. In her family’s words:

“Carrie Everett transitioned on Easter Sunday with her family and friends surrounding her with love. The family is spending time together as they celebrate her memory. They ask that you continue to pray for them [and] celebrate her memory.”

Carrie Everett’s health struggles began less than a year after she was crowned Miss North Carolina in 2024. After experiencing the initial symptoms, she dismissed it as a minor illness. But it quickly turned out to be a life-changing diagnosis when scans revealed serious abnormalities. Subsequently, it was found that Carrie suffered from an aggressive form of stomach cancer in late 2025. In turn, the 22-year-old began treatment for the same, including chemotherapy. For this purpose, Carrie had to take a break from her studies and focus on her health.

The former beauty pageant winner was hopeful that she would recover and shared updates from her treatment journey. However, after a few months, her condition became worse. Eventually, her family shared that the treatment did not have the desired result on her, and they launched a GoFundMe to raise funds for exploring further medical care, including options outside North Carolina. The 22-year-old remained courageous throughout and received her family’s support at every step. They even shaved their heads to show their solidarity when she began losing her hair due to the treatment. But she lost the battle for life at last.

What did Carrie Everett envision for herself? 

Apart from her illness, Carrie had big dreams for her future. She was a student of vocal performance and aspired to become a gospel singer. The 22-year-old did not just have a passion for music, but it became a way for her to connect and express her faith. Carrie intended to use the platform to make a meaningful change. Additionally, after winning Miss North Carolina, she actively encouraged students, especially those from historically Black colleges and universities, to pursue education and scholarship opportunities.
