"At 100, Prem Nath Inspires Generations: A Legacy of Voting Since 1951!"

Prem Nath, a centenarian from Paryote in Doda district, is set to celebrate his 100th birthday in six months. He has maintained an impressive record of voting in every election since India’s first parliamentary elections in 1951.

During the recent 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Prem Nath demonstrated his unwavering commitment to democracy by being one of the first voters at his local polling booth, despite his advanced age and frail health. His dedication serves as a powerful reminder of civic duty, as he arrived early in the morning to cast his vote at the 113 Paryote polling station.

In a heartfelt message, Prem Nath expressed his belief in the importance of voting: “I have never missed a chance to vote and I will continue as long as I am able… my only appeal is that all voters should come out to vote… we can make ourselves heard through the power of vote.” His inspiring actions were highlighted in a video shared by the Jammu & Kashmir PR Department’s Doda division on social media.

As the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections commenced, a voter turnout of 41.17% was recorded by 1 PM, according to the Election Commission. This election marks a significant moment as it is the first since the abrogation of Article 370, which altered the region’s special status.
