Bayern breeze past Belgian opponents

Bayern Munich extended their flawless start to the season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Club Brugge, making it 12 wins from 12 under Vincent Kompany.

The Bavarians were dominant from the outset, tearing through the visitors with a devastating first-half display.

Seventeen-year-old Lennart Karl opened the scoring inside five minutes with a brilliant solo run and top-corner finish, becoming Bayern’s youngest-ever Champions League goalscorer and the youngest German to net in the competition.

Harry Kane soon doubled the lead, tapping in from Konrad Laimer’s cut-back after a slick move involving Luis Diaz.

Díaz added a third before half-time, crashing a thunderous effort off the underside of the bar after more fine work from Laimer, who registered two assists on the night.

The hosts’ dominance continued after the break, though Jackers’ heroics in goal spared the Belgian champions further punishment. Bayern eventually grabbed their fourth when substitute Nicolas Jackson converted after Jackers’ initial save.

Marseille fall to Sporting

Sporting came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Marseille at Estadio Jose Alvalade, overturning a first-half deficit to earn their second win of the Champions League campaign.

The visitors started brightly and went ahead through Igor Paixao, who curled a superb right-footed strike into the top corner after collecting a long pass from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Marseille looked in control until a dramatic moment just before half-time. Emerson went down under minimal contact from Maximiliano Araujo, with the referee initially awarding a penalty.

However, after a VAR review, the decision was overturned and Emerson was shown a second yellow card for simulation – leaving Marseille with ten men.

Sporting made their advantage count in the second half. Substitute Geny Catamo levelled the score in the 69th minute, slotting into the bottom corner after being played onside by Benjamin Pavard.

The comeback was completed late on as Alisson Santos’ deflected effort looped beyond Geronimo Rulli in the 86th minute to seal all three points.

Galatasaray withstand Bodo/Glimt challenge

Galatasaray continued their strong European form with a 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt at Rams Park, though the Turkish champions were made to work for all three points after a spirited second-half response from the visitors.

The hosts flew out of the blocks and took the lead inside three minutes through Victor Osimhen. Mario Lemina pounced on a loose ball in midfield before sliding a perfect pass through to the Nigerian striker, who calmly slotted past Nikita Haikin.

Bodo never settled into a rhythm, and their defensive lapses were repeatedly punished. Osimhen doubled his tally just after the half-hour mark, capitalising on a sloppy back-pass from Fredrik Bjorkan to roll home his second of the night.

Despite Galatasaray’s dominance, the Norwegian champions did show flashes of threat late in the first half. Jens Petter Hauge spurned a glorious chance from close range before Sondre Fet struck the post with a curling effort.

Any hopes of a Bodo comeback seemed extinguished when Yunus Akgun added a third on the hour mark, finishing from close range after another defensive mix-up in the visitors’ back line.

Galatasaray could have been out of sight soon after, with Osimhen missing two more gilt-edged opportunities to complete his hat-trick and Haikin producing several key saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

To their credit, Kjetil Knutsen’s men refused to fold. Bjorkan, who had endured a difficult first half, made amends with a superb run and cross that found substitute Andreas Helmersen unmarked at the far post.

The striker nodded home to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes to play, briefly giving the Norwegians hope of an unlikely comeback.

However, that proved to be the final major moment of the night. Galatasaray managed the closing stages professionally, slowing the tempo and frustrating Bodo’s attempts to create further chances.
