In an interview with India Today, Charithra spoke about the recent racist backlash she faced and revealed that she found strength in her community. Charithra revealed how colour plays a vital role in the entertainment business. Talking about facing racism, she stated:
“Unfortunately, when you are a person of colour, racism is the nature of the business. You could be minding your own business and still be exposed to it. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. But at this point, I’m so used to it.”

In the same conversation, Charithra revealed that she gets solace by leaning on her people, who motivate her throughout and love her. She revealed, telling other women with colour to not listen to what people were saying online as they were not real and their opinions never really matter. Speaking about her roots, Charithra revealed:
“I am so proud to be brown. I am so proud to be Indian.”

After Charithra was cast in One Piece Season 2, she was flooded with negative comments on her social media. It was difficult for Charithra to navigate the negativity around her, but the support from her family, fans and castmates helped her sail through the negativity. Speaking to Teen Vogue, Charithra shared that a ‘vocal minority’ group targeted her with racist comments.
In the same interaction, Charithra also revealed how the trolls fail to understand that there is a human on the other side, who becomes the target of the online backlash. Revealing how she will not let the racism slide away, Charithra said:
