Chaz Bono Marries First GF, Shara Mathes After 40 Years, While His Mom, Cher Sparks Engagement Buzz

Chaz Bono is married now. He finally took the plunge and tied the knot on March 8, 2026, with his longtime girlfriend, Shara Blue Mathes. The ceremony, described as a “Hollywood Glam Formal” wedding, took place at the Los Angeles Roosevelt Hotel, with the couple’s close friends and family in attendance. These arrangements created the perfect ambience for Chaz and Shara to mark a milestone in their long journey of love. Chaz Bono and Shara Mathes’s wedding ceremony was accentuated with small, dramatic, and romantic details that created an ideal Hollywood setting for their big day. According to People Magazine, the couple’s wedding featured a black aisle lined with glowing red candles and moody floral arrangements, creating an aesthetic setting for the couple to exchange vows. On the special occasion, Chaz chose to wear a classic black tuxedo with a black bow tie and a purple calla lily boutonniere.

On the other hand, Shara Blue Mathes looked ethereal in a long-sleeved lace wedding dress. She styled her hair with the dress in soft curls and held a bouquet of deep purple orchids and other vibrant blooms, adding to the elegant atmosphere. As per the wedding planner, Natalie Sofer, who organised the ceremony revealed that the couple shared a celebratory dip after exchanging vows in a heartfelt moment. On the other hand, the guests described the evening as both glamorous and emotional, celebrating the couple’s decades-long love.

Among other special moments, Chaz’s mother, Cher, added sparkle to the wedding. The legendary singer and actress sat in the front row as she watched her son say “I do.” She has always been supportive of her son and his challenges. In some of her interviews, she has often praised his strength and his significance to her. Soon, it turned into an emotional moment for the family as Cher watched her son mark a new beginning.

Although Chaz and Shara’s wedding was the main highlight, the event also sparked rumours that his mother, Cher, might also have gotten engaged. It all began when the observers noticed that the veteran star wore a large diamond ring on her engagement finger. Needless to say, it immediately sparked speculation about her relationship with music producer, Alexander Edwards. Additionally, the ring was paired with another diamond band, which immediately sparked engagement rumours.

However, Cher herself has not confirmed whether the ring hinted towards her engagement or was simply a fashion choice. For those unaware, Cher has been linked to Alexander for several years, and their relationship buzz often makes headlines. Subsequently, the diamond ring at her son’s wedding has also fueled speculation about whether another major announcement will soon take place.

Chaz and Shara’s love story has been in the making for nearly four decades

Chaz Bono and Shara Blue Mathes’ relationship dates back more than 40 years. They first met as teenagers while studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Hollywood. According to Chaz, Shara was the first person he ever kissed. However, life eventually took them in different directions. But the couple reconnected again through mutual friends in 2017 and began rebuilding their relationship. In Chaz’s words:

“I think it’s safe to say not many grooms end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later.”

Gradually, their romance deepened, and they eventually got engaged. In turn, Shara has brought her family into their relationship with her 25-year-old son, Cooper, creating a blended family. The couple helped each other face difficult challenges, including Shara’s battle with cancer, to complete their love story. Reportedly, the duo is next set to celebrate their new chapter with a honeymoon in Hawaii.
