Put simply, most of the world’s high-end, powerful computer chips – the ones used by Silicon Valley firms to fuel the creation of LLMs – are controlled by America. In fact, most of them are designed by one California-based company: Nvidia. In October, Nvidia became the first company in the world to be valued at $5tn (£3.8tn).
