Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy sanctioned ₹5 lakh financial assistance to the family of a Gulf worker from Jagtial district who died after returning to India for treatment. The support was given as a special case under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The beneficiary, Arelli Gangarajam, 61, a native of Polasa in Jagtial district, had been working in Dubai. He fell seriously ill due to a kidney-related problem and slipped into a coma on November 12, 2025, while undergoing treatment in Dubai.

Gangarajam was later shifted to Hyderabad for advanced care and admitted to Nims. But despite continued treatment, he passed away on December 24 at the Jagtial Government Area Hospital.

On Tuesday, CM Praja Vani incharge G. Chinna Reddy, state nodal officer Divya Devarajan, state NRI advisory committee chairman and ambassador Dr B.M. Vinod Kumar and vice-chairman Manda Bheem Reddy handed over the cheque to the deceased’s wife, Rajavva, at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Praja Bhavan on Tuesday.

As per rules, ex gratia is given only if the death occurs in a Gulf country. Since Gangarajam died in India, his family was not eligible under the scheme. Considering the circumstances, the Chief Minister approved the aid on humanitarian grounds.
