Coleen Rooney took to Instagram and posted a heartfelt and loving birthday message to husband Wayne to celebrate his 40th birthday
Coleen Rooney is not known for posting heartfelt messages on social media. But in a bid to mark the milestone birthday of husband Wayne, the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here runner-up stepped out of character and posted a loving message.
Taking to Instagram, the mum of four posted a loved up picture of the pair together holding a cocktail. She captioned the post simply saying: “Happy 40th birthday @waynerooney …love you xxx.”
The couple have known each other since they were 12 years of age but started dating at the age of 16. By 2008, their relationship had flourished and both Wayne and Coleen tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Portofino, Italy.
On the back of Coleen’s message celebrity friends and family rushed to the comment section and penned their congratulations. Celebrity pals including actress Claire Sweeny, Coronation Street star Alan Halsall and former Premiere League footballer Jamie Carragher shared their well wishes.
The most recent episode of Wayne’s BBC podcast was to mark his 40th birthday. He is seen joined by boxing champ and I’m A Celeb star Tony Bellew, who arrives to the show with a birthday cake.
Wayne was also joined by his former teammates Alex Bruce and Darron Gibson. With such a landmark birthday, you could be forgiven for assuming that he would be partying hard with friends and family.
But it looks as though his years of being out and about are certainly a thing of the past. According to his agent and close friend, Paul Stretford, Wayne will be working in Dubai coaching kids.
In an interview with the Mirror, he revealed: “Coleen has been such a rock for Wayne and the family generally, and now they can spend more time together and enjoy that aspect of their life. I would say at 40 he’s ended up very much in a good place, whereas a lot of us at 40 are thinking, ‘Oh, well, that’s my young days gone, it’s all downhill from here’.”
He continued: “Do you know what he’ll be doing on his birthday? He’ll be coaching kids in Dubai. The beauty of it is he can take Coleen and the kids for half-term, but what he’s doing is he’s got his boots on, he’s on the grass, where he loves best, coaching kids.”
Last month, Wayne candidly revealed that his love of alcohol became so bad it would have destroyed his life and thanked Coleen for her unwavering support.
Appearing on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcasts when made his shock admission. He told his fellow sportsman: “I wanted to go out and enjoy my time with my friends and having a night out. It got to a point where I went too far, of course it did. That was a moment in my life where I was struggling massively. With alcohol. Massively struggling and I didn’t think I could turn to anyone.”
He added: “I didn’t really want to, because I didn’t want to put that burden on anyone. I remember going into training and putting eyes drops in, chewing gum. I just drank for two days straight. Go training and at the weekend, I’d scored two goals and then I’d go back and go and drink for two days straight again.”
Wayne went on to say: “Coleen is massive. It’s bad because we’re two kids from Croxteth, and then we grew up together and obviously we started dating and got married and have kids. But when I was 17 she could see, she knew my mind and she knew I was a bit out there. You know, I loved my football. I was obsessed with football, but also I loved a night out or whatever going out. She’s seen it very early on, and she’s controlled that. Well, not controlled, but helped me control that massively.”
He continued: “And at times you’re like, ‘what are you doing? Why do you keep saying don’t do this or don’t do that? I honestly believe if she wasn’t there I’d be dead. I believe that. I’ve made mistakes in the past, which are well documented and whatever, but I’m a little bit different at times and she keeps me on that path. She’s done it for 20-odd years.”
