Kamareddy:Tension prevailed at the camp office of BJP MLA K. Venkataramana Reddy in Kamareddy on Saturday after a Congress leader tried to stage a protest amid an ongoing dispute over alleged land encroachment. The confrontation follows exchanges of allegations between the MLA and state government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir over land pertaining to a government degree college. While Shabbir alleged encroachment, Venkataramana Reddy denied the charge and challenged him to an open discussion.

Kamareddy superintendent of police M. Rajesh Chandra said leaders of both parties had been making allegations over lands related to the Government Degree College and Shishu Mandir. He said Mahender Reddy drove his car at high speed towards the MLA’s camp office despite police attempts to stop him.

BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao strongly condemned Congress activists’ attack. “These are shameful assaults on democracy,” Rao said in a statement. Rao warned that the BJP will not tolerate Congress’ bid to muzzle rivals through force, pledging full support to its leaders and workers. He announced a personal visit to the site to ascertain facts and expose Congress misdeeds.

Meanwhile, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, dispatched by the BJP to inspect the damage and meet the MLA, was placed under house arrest by police as he tried to leave his residence. Rajender blasted the police action, vowing that party workers and the public would deliver a fitting rebuke to Congress for suppressing opposition through violence.

Former sarpanch and Congress leader Giri Reddy Mahender Reddy, along with other Congress workers, reached the MLA’s camp office. BJP workers reportedly stopped them, leading to scuffles between the two groups. Amid the commotion, Mahender Reddy’s car was allegedly damaged and overturned. Police intervened and detained him.

Speaking to reporters, MLA Venkataramana Reddy said there were no irregularities in the 263-acre government degree college land and asked that any alleged sale of even one square yard be proved. He stated that if anything happened to him, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy would be responsible.

Congress district leader Sandeep Srinivas said the party had no connection with Mahender Reddy’s visit to the MLA’s residence and accused the MLA of trying to divert the issue. He also alleged that the MLA was threatening police officials.

A case has been registered at Kamareddy town police station. Mahender Reddy was taken into custody, arrested and remanded. Police said he had been involved in criminal cases earlier and that investigation is under way.
