Coronation Street actor Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, has been on the soap for years and it turns out he has a famous talented wife

Coronation Street‘s Ben Price has become a soap icon in his role as Nick Tilsley – but many don’t realise he’s married to a rather well-known face.

The star joined the ITV programme in 2009, portraying Nick, the offspring of Gail Platt (Helen Worth). Since taking over the character, previously inhabited by Adam Rickitt and Warren Jackson, Nick has remained at the heart of the cobbles’ most gripping drama.

From romantic betrayals to the revelation of a hidden son, Nick has featured in numerous major plot developments. Currently, in the latest episodes, his son Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) has resorted to drugs to boost his declining academic performance.

Alongside his educational struggles, Sam is simultaneously working to unmask predator Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon) and her inappropriate involvement with pupil Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale). Witnessing Sam’s altered demeanour, father Nick has understandably become increasingly worried.

Beyond the programme, however, Nick actor Ben enjoys a considerably calmer existence with his spouse and their two youngsters. He has been wed to fashion stylist and actress Alexandra Wheeler since 2005, reports the Daily Star.

The duo initially crossed paths whilst collaborating on a theatrical production titled On The Razzle. Together they share two children – Maximillian and Paloma.

When his daughter Paloma was born in 2007, Ben, who had gained recognition through ITV’s ‘Footballers’ Wives’ and ‘Casualty’, took on the role of a stay-at-home dad.

Speaking to The Telegraph in 2009, Ben confessed: “‘I thought that being a stay-at-home dad was going to be easy but, initially, it was isolating and scary. No one trains you for the job. They just say, ‘Here’s a nappy, off you go.'”.

However, Ben reflected positively on the experience, stating: “I’ll be going back to work soon after the new baby is born and handing over the reins to Alex, but I consider myself lucky to have spent so much time with my daughter. Some dads go all week without seeing their children.”

A devoted family man, Ben temporarily left the soap in 2017 to resume his role as a stay-at-home dad, finding it challenging to juggle personal responsibilities with an intense filming schedule. Unable to continue commuting from London to Manchester for the role, he told the Daily Star: “I only left to go back to my kids.”

“So I took them to school and made packed lunches and became a dad, and didn’t think about Nick Tilsley or the Street. I was a stay-at-home dad. It’s pretty unglamorous, it’s just life.” However, just a year later, former series producer Kate Oates approached Ben with the proposition of more flexible hours should he decide to return to the show.

Discussing his comeback, Ben said: “It was a no-brainer for me. I missed the show, and I missed the cast and crew. […] It’s not always easy, but I’m lucky to have a supportive family and a job that I love. I’m just taking it one day at a time.”
