Beverley Callard has given fans an update on her condition from the hospital, just days after the Coronation Street star disclosed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer

Beverley Callard has shared a health update from the hospital after her cancer diagnosis. The Coronation Street legend, known for playing feisty Liz McDonald, disclosed last week on Ireland’s RTE Late Late Show that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

However, the 68-year-old confirmed that the cancer had been caught in the early stages and she was returning to England to undergo radiotherapy and surgery. But this week, she has given fans an update from the hospital after undergoing more examinations.

Taking to Instagram, the actress said: “Thank you, thank you for all your messages, you are truly amazing. I just thought I’d tell you what’s happening now, in case I can help others and keep you updated.

“I am at the hospital now, and they’re about to test the lymph nodes and lymph glands. I’m feeling fine, I’m really positive, and I’ll keep you updated.” Another clip saw Beverley sat at home with her dog, as she explained: “So, I’m back from the hospital. And all seemed to go well.

“They’ve tested lymph nodes and things, so I should know by Wednesday of next week. I have another appointment then, and two days later, I have the operation, so I’m feeling really positive, but I must say, there were dozens of ladies in there, just the same as me, and they were all positive as well.

“And upbeat, so we’re getting there and sticking together.” She went on to add that everything was “really good” and her dog, Arthur, had been comforting her. Speaking to Patrick Kielty on RTE’s Late Late Show last week, Beverley said: “I’ve had some tests just before I left the UK, and literally, 15, 20 minutes before I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and I was quite nervous and thinking, ‘I hope everybody thinks I’m all right’, whatever.

“And my consultant rang me and said, ‘You’ve got to come back to the UK.’ I said, ‘Well, I can’t possibly, I’ve just taken a new job’, I said ‘I’m away for a month’, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”

The actress continued: “But I’m fine, I’m absolutely fine. My head was a bit mashed for the first few days. It’s very early stages, and I’m along with thousands of other women as well. It’s early stages, I travel back to the UK tomorrow, just for a couple of weeks, they’re going to test lymph nodes and lymph glands and all that.

“But then I need an operation and some radiotherapy, and then I’m coming back to Fair City, so I will be back in just a few weeks.” Beverley explained that she made the decision to speak openly on TV rather than her fans read about it online.

In a separate interview with The Mail on Sunday, the actress said: “I’m feeling fine, I’’ feeling strong. I’m glad I’ve said it out publicly so it’s just out there for other thousands of women who are also going through it.

“But yes, I’m feeling really strong, a little bit scared because it seems a bit more real since I’m going back to hospital next week. But I’m really full of optimism.”

She went on: “The biggest thing of all is I cannot wait to come back to Fair City to all the actors and the crew because they’ve just been amazing and I love the treadmill of being in studio, and doing one scene after another. The writing has been amazing and I just can’t wait for more.”
