Aichi Governor Hideaki Omura, who chairs the organizing committee, attended a meeting of the multi-party Sports Parliamentary League on October 31st and explained the progress of preparations. During the meeting, Omura reportedly stated that due to rising prices and labor costs, the total expenditure is likely to reach “the upper range of 300 billion yen.”

When Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya City first decided to bid for the games, they estimated total costs at between 105 billion and 108 billion yen. The latest projection, therefore, represents more than a threefold increase.

This is the first time a concrete outlook for total expenses has been revealed. Governor Omura is seeking financial assistance from the national government to cover the ballooning costs.
