The shocking deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, in their Brentwood home has left Hollywood devastated. And it has now seeped beyond the industry, too, as the Being Charlie director’s son, Nick Reiner, faces charges for their brutal murder. Now, prosecutors say, Nick could face the harshest punishment, and even a death penalty, if convicted, under California law. Here’s whar we know so far about Nick’s formal charges, as stated by the Los Angeles County District Attorney.

What are the charges?

According to TMZ, Nick Reiner, 32, is currently facing two charges of murder for the brutal stabbing of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. During a press conference, attorney Nathan J Hochman and LAPD Chief Jim McDonnel stated his charges:

“[Reiner is charged with] two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.”

The murder charges, along with “special” allegations for multiple murders, and the personal use of knife, a deadly weapon, could even make the case eligible for a death penalty, as reported. If convicted, Nick could receive life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. Attorney Hochman said:

“The death penalty is on the table if their son, Nick Reiner, is convicted of murdering his parents.”

It is to be noted that California has not carried out a capital punishment since 2019. However, with these charges, the prosecutor, Hochman, had made it clear death penalty is still very much possible if the Court finds the convict legible for it. With Nick Reiner’s charges, he reportedly qualifies for a death penalty, but the final decision will come later.
